“The BBQ oh my goodness yummy go for the Brisket! Pulled Pork is good as well and the Ribs slide off the bone! The Toastada salad is a nice big portion and full of flavor. And the Crawfish Étouffee yes I said Crawfish so good New Orleans style! & the give you fresh little buns with butter served warm.”
“We came for Father's Day - our first time here. My husband got the Father's Day bbq special which was tons of food and a great value. He liked it but said the bbq from Mission is definitely better. I got the catfish sandwich with a baked potato and it was great. We didn't find out until the check came that even though the menu advertises kids meals as half off on Sundays, the deal doesn't count on Father's Day for some reason. My daughter got a tiny cup of mac and cheese and a tiny cup of fruit. We had asked for fruit as her side as long as it wasn't all melons (the waiter didn't know what kind of fruit they were serving), and the fruit cup when it came was almost all honeydew and cantaloupe with 3 pieces of unripe, hard pineapple. Had I known kids meals were full priced, we could have just had my daughter eat the mac and cheese that came with my husband's dinner because the value of the kids meal was definitely not as good as the value for the adult food. Not tons of vegetarian options, and it was hard not to notice that every person dining was white - so just be aware of the vibe. Overall, great food!”
“This spot is definitely an above average dining experience. We went for breakfast and the chilaquiles were excellent. The coffee was also tasty. While certainly not bad, the service and atmosphere were just about average. Overall, id absolutely come back to try lunch or dinner”
“Friday night dinner. Got 2 of the 3 meat samplers. Pork was pretty good, brisket did not have much flavor but was NOT dry. I really liked the ribs and really did not like the wings. Fries and mac were good, cole slaw and beans were great. I was not a big fan of the sauces I tried. Hot link was HOT but good. Parking was a little tricky and dark upon entering. Id give the overall experience a 3.8. If I return, it would be for ribs and cole slaw.”
“Chuck’s Southern Café in Darien has been on my list for a while, so I finally decided to stop in and give it a try. I ordered the rib tips with spicy green beans, and mac & cheese, with dinner rolls. The food was okay overall, but nothing that really stood out. One thing I did notice was that the food came out extremely fast. It’s almost like it was already prepared ahead of time. Because of that, most of the food wasn’t hot when it arrived, except for the green beans. Food gave more of a catering-style already prepared or cafeteria-style feel rather than the fresh, authentic Southern comfort food experience you might expect. I also tried the gumbo, which unfortunately wasn’t my favorite. It had a burnt roux taste that made it edible, but not very enjoyable. It was nice and hearty. One highlight was the alcoholic drink that my waitress Eva recommended. It was nice, sweet, and definitely one of the better parts of the visit. Eva also did a great job with service, she was attentive and pleasant throughout the meal. They also had a great little budget menu the day I went, which is nice if you’re looking for affordable options. Overall, though, I wasn’t as impressed as I expected to be, especially since this is a place I’ve been meaning to try for a while. I might give it another shot in the future, but I’m not completely sure yet. ⭐⭐½”
