“If you’re building a Charlotte itinerary, Idlewild deserves a mandatory spot—explore NoDa during the day, then settle in here at night for one of the best cocktail experiences in the city. The vibe is reminiscent of Attaboy…but honestly, the cocktails here might be even better. There’s no menu—just insanely talented bartenders who take your preferences and turn them into something unforgettable. Mason is the da Vinci of cocktails. You give him an abstract idea, and he turns it into a masterpiece. His elevated take on a Manhattan, the “Creole,” completely blew me away—rooted in that classic Manhattan heritage but layered with more complexity and uniqueness. Then he flipped the script on an Old Fashioned with the “A La Louisiana,” bringing in rum in a way that sounds wild but works flawlessly. And that was just the start. My other half had a Sunflower with absinthe, egg whites, gin, and a lemon twist—smooth, bright, and incredibly well-balanced. The space itself seals the deal: dark, moody, intimate…exactly what you want in a top-tier cocktail bar. We absolutely loved it—five stars without hesitation.”

“This is a cool and interesting place to get cocktails. I would definitely recommend reservations as there isn't much seating. Cocktails all appeared to be $17 each, which is good to know since there is no menu. Parking is tough in the area as well so try to get there before your reservation. Fun place with great drinks and I am excited to go back.”

“Lovely vibes and great music! I’ve been to Idlewild a couple of times and always walk out happy. During the weekdays it’s usually pretty empty, but it can get very packed on weekends. I recommend calling ahead on weekends to check for seating availability. Other than that, this bar is amazing! The bartenders are so nice and welcoming and really add to the experience.”

“The service is exceptional and every drink I’ve ordered here has been excellent. I love the moody, cozy atmosphere and great music. You can always tell the servers what you’re in the mood for and they will deliver. For non-alcoholic folks, it’s a major treat as well. It’s a little hard to get reservations but give them a call at 6 pm (as soon as they open) and they can help you get on a list. The staff is so helpful, kind and professional. Can’t wait to come back here!”

“Super cool concept. Reservations are pretty much required. There’s no menu. You tell the bartender what you like and they build something for you on the fly. The bartenders are clearly skilled and the whole experience is fun to watch. That said, the drinks lean very hard into classic mixology. Lots of fresh citrus and fruit, good spirits, well balanced cocktails. But it also means you will not really see house infused liquors, specialty syrups, really spicy elements, or anything truly briny. If you are hoping for something like a extra dirty martini or a more adventurous flavor profile, you might hit a wall. So yes, the cocktails are good. The concept is cool. I just wish they pushed the creativity a little further. Still, I will absolutely be back.”
