“We had such a wonderful stay at this cozy local hotel! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome and were incredibly friendly throughout our visit. We especially loved the morning coffee and delicious homemade banana bread — such a thoughtful touch that made the stay even more special. The atmosphere was warm, relaxing, and comfortable, and we truly enjoyed every minute of our time there. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a charming and welcoming place to stay!”
“Just enjoyed a fabulous Mother’s Day brunch at The Ruffed Grouse Tavern. The food is always fabulous, but even better is the warm and friendly atmosphere created by a team who obviously enjoy what they do. Staff make you feel so special, whether you’re there for a special occasion or just a drop in visit. So happy to see Danielle back for the summer; she’s the best. Always love seeing Sam, who is just a beautiful bottle of sunshine; then there’s our favorite, Bobby, who has the touch when it comes to cocktails. We live close, so we’ve never stayed in the hotel, but I have no doubt it would be an unforgettable experience. A must, on your list, when you visit Highlands.”
“My husband and I truly loved everything about our stay at HMH and our dining experience. There was a little confusion about the room we booked when we arrived and the staff and manager graciously upgraded us to another room that happened to be available. The rooms are beautiful and eclectic and the vibe of the whole place is perfect with the worn in yet cozy furniture, the fun decor, the woodburning fireplace, the music, and the wrap around patio. We arrived on a Thursday evening and had a dinner reservation that night. There was really great live music playing and even though we were right next to the musician, we could still have a conversation. The waitress was busy but attentive and our meals were delicios. It did take a very long time for dessert to arrive but she gave us a discount for the wait. We didn't complain or say anything so that was really thoughtful. The bartender was really nice as well. Honestly everyone who works there just seems happy and that energy seemed to translate to the guests and diners too. The young girl who checked us in (maybe Abby) works really hard helping out with so many things. She's a true gem of an employee and a sweet person. This was our first trip to the Highlands and when we return, we will definitely stay here again. I will recommend this place to my friends too. Thank you for making our short getaway so special and enjoyable.”
“Can’t say enough about our two meals here at the Ruffed Grouse Tavern. The food was amazing. Delicious crabcakes, fresh baked corn bread that had a wonderful smoked hint to it, grilled banana bread was great, tilefish special prepared perfectly, crab cake Benedict tasted great, for example. Too much food backed by excellent service - personalized, friendly, and eager to help. Even with a large noisy group of children at the next table, we had a genuine great time and I would recommend this to all. As for our stay, the room was small but comfortable and with many nice amenities. But we usually get the cheaper rooms because they are mostly just for sleeping.. I’m sure there are larger rooms. But the best part - besides the quaintness and location and cleanliness and facilities - was the personalized over the top eagerness to serve from each staff person we interacted with. Wait staff was well trained and excellent, Sarah was super helpful, and especially Alicia (sp?) gave us very personal service. We will stay here again.”
“We enjoyed our stay at the Highlander Mountain Home -spending our 25th anniversary there. We hope to return soon. Sarah was delightful and attentive. She provided answers to all of our questions. We had enjoyable conversations with the restaurant manager (and learned of her family’s long history in the community) as well as the staff members - Maggie, Abbie and Graham. The location was perfectly situated in the middle of town. Highlands is a wonderful community with gorgeous nature surrounding it.”
