A small cocktail bar from Bobby Heugel and Tommy Ho above Houston’s most famous bar, Anvil. Both reservations and walk-ins are offered and generally able to be accommodated during most service hours. Arguably the city’s best cocktail service in an environment that is upscale, but still relaxed and entertaining. Refuge is able to offer exceptional cocktails with nicer spirits, glassware, and flair because of the smaller size of the room, which often reminds guests of intimate cocktail dens in cities like New York, London, or Tokyo. That said, we know this is Houston, and we love how Houston drinks. Enter through the large glass door on the east parking lot side of Anvil towards the back of the building. All reservations are for 90 minutes, at then end of which we will need to transition to our next reservation. We offer valet on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays in addition to self-parking. There are over 60 parking spaces on property, which is rare for Montrose, but parking can still be tight in this neighborhood, so plan accordingly. Please note our cancelation policy when finalizing your reservation. All guests must be 21+ years of age.

“Refuge is THE spot in Houston. Date nights ? Refuge. Break up? Refuge. Birthday? Refuge . Bachelorette or bachelor party? Refuge. Friendly gatherings ? Refuge? The staff is beyond upstanding and incredibly, the atmosphere is perfect, and the drinks are so divine. Don't drink? The mocktails are to die for ( so is the grilled cheese if you're feeling peckish) . No matter the occasion or company you can't go wrong . Parking can be a little tricky but it's so worth it to come on in.”
“AMAZING. my fiancé made a reservation to celebrate our engagement with some friends. I really like the vibe, amazing ambiance and music and decoration. Drink options are great and staff are incredible!!! One thing, the marble coaster got stuck to the glass and drop often. Another words, when you pick up the glasses, the coaster comes with it for a bit and drops with a bit of noise. Other than that— PERFECT 10/10 !!!”
“Refuge Coffee is an interesting place to get coffee. The entrance is extremely awkward. There is a huge parking lot across the street. Service was so-so. Location is good. Just hard to find it.”
“Refuge was the ending to the first date my boyfriend and I had 3 years ago, and a spot that will hold a very special place in our hearts. We used to love it for exemplary service, top notch cocktails, and a speakeasy like atmosphere. It felt like a little slice of Heaven amidst the craziness of the Houston bar scene, which is why I am still giving it 3 stars. However, that seems to have changed in recent history. Last time we were there, the lights were on, our reservation was delayed by 30 minutes and they tried to serve us cocktails while standing. The service has also been unprofessional and slow in recent times we’ve been. Some of their newer menu additions have been questionable, like the clarified grasshopper - why remove the creamy goodness that makes the grasshopper so beloved? Without the creaminess, it’s like drinking mouthwash. The music has also changed from the speakeasy-like tunes to rap and reggaeton, which is fine, but not something you’d expect or want in a speakeasy. The bathrooms are also not kept up well and are quite frankly disgusting, which is not what you’d expect for the way they advertise themselves or the price point. We loved the old refuge and hope that they bring it back. Some of their drinks are still good, many of which are from the original menu, but until some significant changes are made, we probably won’t be back anytime soon.”
