Named after Fanny Brice—the legendary movie, vaudeville, theater, and radio star portrayed by Barbra Streisand in her Oscar®-winning role in Funny Girl (1968)—the striking two-story, 10,000-square-foot space, conceptualized by the late architect Osvaldo Maiozzi, features a chef-designed open kitchen, elegant bar, and captain-based service style that nods to a bygone era, and offers diners cuisine by Chef Jun Bum Oh, with the support of Chef Eric Klein, SVP Culinary for Wolfgang Puck Catering. The restaurant is supported by Wendy Stark Morrissey, Brice’s granddaughter. In addition to dinner service, Fanny's offers a remarkable market cafe for breakfast and lunch, six days a week.
“Modern decor and setting; located in the lobby of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures with windows overlooking Wilshire Boulevard and the museum entrance. Good food with fresh ingredients. Friendly and professional service. Adjacent to LACMA and Peterson car museum so its a great place for lunch on a museum day trip or dinner after seeing a movie at the Academy Museum.”
“Had a delicious early birthday dinner at Fanny’s before going to a screening of “Lost Highway” at the Academy Museum. Bridget took exceptional care of me and the meal was a treat! That salmon dish is the last thing I want to eat before I die. 🥹”
“Can’t beat the atmosphere. Fun cocktails and an extensive wine list. They close at 7:30pm, so early dinner is the only evening option. The food menu is pretty standard, nothing earth shattering. The service is friendly and attentive. All in all, a great place to hang with friends or a family outing.”
“December 2025: Stopped by at the restaurant for a sit down lunch. Started with the focaccia bread that was served with a garlic butter and cheese. Was tasty. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad 🥗. I enjoyed it. Was fairly good size portion. My wife ordered the lobster cobb salad and there was a surprise that they served the bacon COLD. Was odd because you can see the congealed fat which was very unappetizing. Below is the reason for the mixed review. We asked if they could serve the bacon hot and they refused. They said that we could order a side of bacon... But that was a bit off putting. Prices are high to begin with. So we felt they were not very accommodating of a simple request to fix a poor choice of serving cold bacon. Probably wouldn't come back for food again here.”
“I really wanted to love this place because the setting inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is beautiful and the food at Fanny’s was actually really good. I’m at the museum a couple times a week, my partner works closely with the Academy so I’m pretty up to date on what’s going on around there. I come here all the time but had never tried Fanny’s until now, which is why this was kind of disappointing. From the start the service just felt off. The hosts weren’t very welcoming and that energy kinda carried through the whole meal. They also kept contradicting each other. At one point I asked for a menu and was told I had to go look myself and order at the bar, but then another host brought me a menu anyway and a server came over and took my order and said I didn’t have to order at the bar. Then when my two friends joined, they weren’t given menus and were told to order at the bar. It felt really inconsistent and honestly not very thoughtful, especially since the women I was with are in their 80s and had canes. Before I could even really say anything, the people I was with noticed and commented on how sad the service was. They’re also members of the Academy and were pretty shocked by the experience. It didn’t get better once the food came. My food was brought out without any napkins or utensils, and I was asked if I needed a fork and knife to eat it. I said of course, and the response back was “that’s why I’m asking you,” which felt unnecessarily snappy. He then brought me a fork and knife in his bare hands with no napkins. Another server noticed and thankfully came over, apologized, brought properly wrapped utensils, and finally got us water. Our server came off a little condescending at times and overall the staff just didn’t feel that friendly or attentive. The most frustrating part was when I asked about an item on the menu and then it was brought out like I ordered it. I told them I didn’t order it and was just asking about it, but instead of just owning the mistake it felt like they were kind of trying to flip it on me which was honestly frustrating. It’s a shame because the food and space are really nice, but service really matters. I’d come back for the food but only if the service improves.”
