Odd Duck Milwaukee

“Odd Duck has been one of Milwaukee's most talked-about restaurants since it opened in 2012, surviving a decade in Bay View and then relocating to Walker's Point in 2022 with a fresh space and the same kitchen philosophy intact. Chef Ross Bachhuber runs a menu that changes constantly, drawing from local produce and then applying techniques and inspirations that can range from French to Korean to Midwestern farmhouse depending on what's compelling in the kitchen that week. Yelp named it one of the Top 100 restaurants in the country in 2025 and it was the only Wisconsin restaurant on the list. Because the menu rotates, you can't always count on the same dishes, but the approach stays consistent. On our visit we had a crespelle, an Italian-style crepe filled with ham, peas, ricotta, and herbs with radish and pea shoots on top, which managed to feel both refined and deeply casual at the same time. The scallops arrived next in a way that suggested someone in the kitchen genuinely respected them, properly seared, placed on something bright and acidic underneath. A gnocchi dish with Sarvecchio cheese and charred green onion was rich and earthy and the one we kept reaching back for. The cocktail program is inventive and locally focused, using house-made syrups and seasonal ingredients in ways that complement the food rather than fighting it. Dessert was a coffee crème brûlée that came up immediately in conversation afterward, the coffee flavor subtle but present and the custard properly set beneath a thin sugar crust. This is the kind of restaurant that regulars visit monthly knowing they'll always find something different. Visitors only get one chance at whatever is on that week, which is its own version of a good thing.”

“We ordered everything on the menu under vegetables. Every item was unique and amazing. Great job chef. Friendly servers but a little slow. We were sitting next to the kitchen and the smell of fried oil was a little annoying. Small portions. Cheese cake was to die for.”

“Amazing happy hour!!! I had heard lovely thing an about miss Odd Duck!! That lil duckwurst was expensive but delicious I must admit, and I would get it again. Loved the chili crisp deviled eggs and the chips/dip with trout roe. The spritz was also tasty and fairly priced. Can’t wait to return for the à la carte menu. The decor is pleasingly true to theme. 🦆”

I became the odd duck tonight by requesting the tostada be taken off the Hamachi, and my server understood with curiosity and calmness. - Thanks man. The Leche de Tigre was my favorite culinary sensation tonight because of how its edgy flavor evolves across the palate. I’m grateful for the entirety of tonight’s visit. The team’s support through my dinner was exceptional.”

“A unique small plate dining experience! The menu had lots of options for many different palettes. My biggest complaint is the price versus quantity versus taste. For the expensive prices and small quantities, I would expect exquisite taste. It was good and worth trying, but I wasn't fully wowed.”
