“Late night dinner surprise. I attended an event last night and after the event, at around 9:10 or so… I came home and asked my husband if he wanted to go have a bite to eat. I am usually in bed by 8:30 on a weeknight and maybe 10 on a weekend, but we had to postpone our anniversary dinner last week, so I decided to try to have a little spontaneous fun. He suggested Talia in Port Chester. We had only visited once and had a few delicious bites at the lovely horse shoe bar upstairs. Boo hoo. The kitchen was closed at 9:45. The hostess suggested Bartaco and a pub, but we remembered that 1881 was up the street and hoped it would be open. (I love Bartaco, but was in the mood for something else.) Not only was 1881 open, but it was bustling. Big city energy. The other day, I was chatting with my friend about the death of hospitality, but last night we found a sign of life at 1881. From the moment we walked in at 10pm, the hostess was bending over backward to find us a good spot at the bar and also offered a table for two next to the gorgeous copper-covered pizza oven. 1881 is loud, but it is so beautiful, fun and delicious that I am ordering some little noise cancellation earbuds. Trying to keep this short. I love the menu at this place. I wanted to try everything. I had been once and loved it. Last night I ordered the cazuela Aleppo with branzino and my husband ordered the artichoke and wild mushroom pizza. There are so many fish options in the small plates. I had no idea that the cazuela would be served with a pizza dough top. This dish was so good. It contained two decent sized fillets of tender and fresh branzino in a chunky savory broth. I can’t eat a lot of dough, but I had to tear pieces of the dough and dip it in the broth. The place was packed and so alive. Our server was incredibly kind and chill. He never made us feel rushed. Our cocktails took about 10 minutes to arrive and he apologized for the delay. I was like… that is not a delay. Every employee that we made contact with was friendly and professional. “Glad to finally try this place. The food was delicious, the drinks were also great and service was good. We had one grumpy waitress but other than her everyone else was very friendly. Atmosphere was lively yet noise levels were good - we were a group of four and could carry a conversation easily. Definitely recommend to friends. The mezze starter is a must! The gambas in garlic oil was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The lamb kebab was juicy and flavorful.”

“This restaurant was recommended by foodie friends, who only go to the best! The minute we walked in, the ambiance, decor and feeling was a sign that this was a different restaurant. We were welcomed by the manager David that immediately made us feel like regulars. Our waitress Larissa was wonderful. The menu is so exotic, we were so impressed. A Mediterranean restaurant with such a different array of foods. We ordered the Eggplant Mezze Bowl that just blew us away. An incredible bread baked on premises with so many different little hummus dishes. So delicious! I’m glad we got curious and just ordered a Neapolitan pizza that was so perfectly cooked. Can’t wait to go back and try some of the other beautiful dishes! Try it, you will love it!”
