Maven is an European restaurant in the Harbord Village neighborhood of Toronto.
“Had a fabulous time with incredible service. The food was great and we were lucky to get a walk in spot as a duo but definitely recommend you get a reservation if possible. I loved the duck confit-- it's exactly what you want to get when you're looking for something rich and homey. I just wish there were more dessert options but you certainly won't be leaving hungry.”
“Girls night at Maven! We had a reservation for 5:30 (party of 3) and there were others sprinkled throughout the restaurant however around 7pm it got the busiest! Definitely recommend grabbing a reservation just in case. Between us three we split 7 dishes (and dessert): 1. Challah Buns [So fluffy, must get] 2. BBQ Salami [YUMMY flavour combination] 3. Crispy Potato 4. Chicken Schnitzel [My favourite dish, the sauce? YUM. I would come back just for this schnitzel] 5. Duck Confit 6. Brussels 7. Stick Charred Carrots 8. Cheesecake *Our selection of dishes really complimented each other The service was super attentive and we also got to me the owner and hear about the story behind the name of the restaurant, dishes and the why. Also the playlist was great some oldie tunes but it was at a good volume so you could still here yourself and your friends.”
“We had a fantastic evening at Maven. The restaurant is cozy and we loved the overall ambiance - including the playlist. Service was impeccable; friendly and attentive but not overbearing. I have celiac and they were very knowledgeable about which dishes were safe (which was most!). Had the pastrami crusted short rib as a main and a number of smaller dishes and we enjoyed every single one. Loved the complimentary coleslaw too. The crudo was really light and fresh, the Maven Caesar was a unique take on a classic that really works. We don’t normally do dessert but got the chocolate mousse and it was the perfect end to a wonderful meal. We thought the value for the quality and portion sizes were great. Will definitely return, looking forward to the warmer months to take advantage of their patio space.”
“Nice place, feels like an old-school dinner vibe. The table settings are very pretty. The pickeltini was interesting. The smoked sausage, when eaten with the unlimited sourcrout, reminded me of late-night sausages on the streets of Toronto, very nostalgic. Didn't realize the green beans were a salad, it was ok. We finished with the chicken schnitzel and the beef rib. The schnitzel is amazing and priced at 33$ worth coming back for. The beef rib, on the other hand, was 72$ and pretty dry. For that price per rib, I expected it to be perfect. Might come back for the schnitzel if I'm in the mood for that, but we are spoiled for choice in this city, so it's hard when the $72 small plate isn't worth it.”
“Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday, unfortunately we were disappointed. We both got pickletinis after an uninspiring explanation of the rest of the drink menu. It was savoury and delicious. We had the challah buns with chicken liver mousse and hamachi crudo to start. The mousse was great but the bun tasted store bought. We end up waiting an entire hour until shishito peppers and duck confit came out. I can understand if it was a busy time but this was 9:45pm and we were one of the last tables left. Our waiter didn't come to check on us so I had to follow up on when our dishes would be arriving. I will say that the duck was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and the flavours were well balanced. Lastly we had the peach trifle, described as "almond olive oil cake, peach, creme fraiche, poppyseed". The whole dish just tasted like lemons and cream, it was really sour. When I kindly told the waiter when she asked how the dish was. She responded with "I'll make note of that". My friend also mentioned that she couldn't taste the almond olive oil in the cake she replied with "Well, that's just what the cake is made of. Not what it tastes like". Is the menu not describing flavour profiles? Otherwise you might as well put sugar and eggs in the description as well.”
