“First time at Mama Ayesha's when in DC for a conference and we had walked by the night before and it looked so inviting we decided to investigate it more the following night. We were able to easily make a reservation and we're seated immediately. The server was so lovely and welcoming and happy to give feedback and suggestions. We ordered the Mujadarah, Musakhan and then the Knafeh for dessert. The Mujadarah is a rice with lentil vegetarian option that was fantastic... we couldn't stop eating it and contemplating if we can make it ourselves since it was so good. The Musakhan is chicken over flatbread and was so incredibly tender that the chicken was falling apart while remaining moist and delicious. The Knafeh had great flavor and wasn't overly sweet, which for a dish that's soaked in a sugar syrup definitely says something! This is one of those times I wish I were either more hungry, had a large group so we can try everything or had the option to take home lots of leftovers would have been ideal. This place will be a non negotiable stop for future conferences and a highlight of our time here in DC.”
“I’ve lived in this neighborhood for quite a while and had walked past Mama Ayesha’s many times, but only recently decided to finally stop in for dinner 🍽️😊. I’m really glad I did because the experience turned out to be wonderful. We ordered a few small plates along with one main dish so we could try several different things from the menu. The absolute highlight for me was the falafel — honestly the best I’ve ever tasted in my life 🧆✨. It was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. Everything else we ordered was also very delicious and clearly prepared with care. The service made the visit even better. Our waiter was extremely friendly and welcoming, which created a very comfortable atmosphere. On top of that, the interior of the restaurant is beautiful and full of character 🏡🌿. It’s a lovely place to relax and enjoy a meal. I’ll definitely be coming back again!”
“It was my first time here. I was seated immediately and my server, Mohammed, was attentive, pleasant, and extremely helpful with helping me select my meal. I had the hummus, kibbeh, musakhan, white wine, baklava, and some lemon ginger tea. Everything was made from scratch and delicious!! The chef came out and asked how everything was and also gave me a little history on the place. They've been open for 75 years and have had presidents come and eat there, I can definitely see why. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning there in the near future!”
“Great food & service. Everything we ordered was delicious, but the Zahir cauliflower is my personal favorite. Was able to accommodate our large party in a reasonable amount of time. Just FYI, there is a 3% charge for paying with a credit card.”
“Food: The Bamiya (okra/lamb) bowl was filled with okras and exactly 3 pieces of meat. A LOT of okra and little meat. The lamb is what makes okra dish tasty! The eggplant dish was heavy and plating was poor for the $23 they charge for it! Service: took close to 40 minutes for food to arrive, had to wave at waiter to get water glasses refilled. Waiters overworked and under trained. Atmosphere: they charge upscale restaurant prices but neither the atmosphere nor the food lives up to expectations and prices”
