This idyllic setting captivated John Zahoudanis when searching for vineyard property in 2005. He had grown up on a farm near Mount Olympus in Greece, where his family cultivated olives, citrus, and a small plot of grapes used to make wine for themselves. John and wife Sandra purchased the estate and named it after their daughter Demetria, and the Greek goddess of harvest Demeter. Today Demetria is still very much a family operation. John and Sandra’s son, Alexis, has lived and worked on the estate full-time since 2009. He works closely with winemaker Ryan Roark, who also oversees the vineyard – one of the first in Santa Barbara County to be farmed biodynamically – with forty-six acres planted to Rhone varietals, five white and five red. Demetria also makes Burgundy-style wines, sourcing organic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from trusted vineyards in cooler California appellations.
“A wonderful place - like a little piece of Italy right here in California! Outstanding wine and the whole vibe just screams - life is beautiful! Their candles are absolutely worth taking home!”
“Absolutely obsessed with this place and it was one of the highlights of our trips! We did horseback riding at 10am with Vino Vaqueros then straight to our wine tasting reservation at Demetria at 11:30am and it was perfect! Logan was the very best and made our experience so delightful. It is the most peaceful place with the best views, shade, and live music! Highly recommend and will be back if ever in the area again!”
“Absolutely stunning property to come wine tasting. The wines are excellent, as is the staff (thank you Logan for the hospitality). I don't tend to like Chardonnay but this one is very well balanced and low malo/low oak. The Sandra Pinot Noir is my favorite. You won't regret grabbing an appointment here on your next trip to the area!”
“We started our day at a fairly if not super well known winery (name withheld) The wine was good but the crowd and staff was stuffy, not accommodating and somewhat rude On to our second winery …. Demetria … so damn awesome. This place is absolutely fantastic !!! Demetria blew the other winery out of the water The views, the staff, the wine … all top notch Tons of locals … which is a great sign. They even let us bring in our sandwiches that Adrianna from Preferred Limo and Transport had arranged for us. Logan was a great server/pourer and the proprietor, Lexi was fantastic. We joined the club and will be back in person I give this place my highest recommendation A+++++”
“Great winery to visit off the beaten path, be sure to have a reservation or you will not be admitted. The wine is quite good here, one of our favorites time and time again. Sommelier was knowledgeable, polite and efficient. We are members and enjoy the experience, so peaceful ad quiet there.”
