New Star Restaurant started over seventy years ago, by the well-known Moy family, loved by the all the residents of Elmwood Park. In 2014, Tommy Moy retired and we are honored to carry on the torch to continue serving all of our customers the same honest and delicious Chinese food everyday.
“Second time coming to this Hibachi spot most current date was 05-22-2026. I do recommend getting a reservation since this place is pretty popular and it gets pretty busy. We got the happy couple hibachi food order more than enough food for 2 people. We got the chicken, shrimp and upgraded to the filet mignon as the proteins. Comes with rice, noodles and vegetables make sure you tell the chef to add extra garlic butter to everything trust me you will thank me. All the meats were cooked perfectly 👌 👍 🥰. The leechy martini was delicious and refreshing 😋, the hot saki is also a must order to complete your hibachi experience. The chef does alot of tricks with his hibachi skills that will keep you entertained very interactive experience. Our waitress was also very delightful. The only bad thing I saw was that the floors were i was seated at was a bit messy with rice, paper and other foods . Didn't see it the first time so I'm assuming it was a one off but other than that it was great. Give it a try 😉 next time I visit I will try their Chinese food menu.”
“If you are in the OAK PARK Il. Area DO NOT pass this place up. Wow!!! Super fresh and HUGEEE portions. So delicious..best subgum ever.. fried rice was amazing and I ordered 3 things the bag weighed easily 9 or 10 lbs.. it came in the cutest reusable bag as well.”
“New Star Restaurant is truly a staple in the Elmwood Park area and one of those places I pray never goes away. What I love most is the versatility…you have the traditional sit-down dining area, and then on the other side (toward the back/left), there’s the hibachi grill. Whether you’re in the mood to relax and be served or want something fresh off the grill, you’ve got options. Now, I’ll be honest, the line can get long, especially on Sundays right when they open at noon. But it’s absolutely worth the wait. Everything is fresh and made to order, and I’ve never had a bad experience here. Some of my go-to favorites include the egg foo young, Mongolian beef, spicy egg rolls, and spicy crab rolls…but honestly, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is always friendly and welcoming, which makes a difference. The atmosphere has a little bit of buzz to it, but it’s not overwhelming, you can still enjoy your conversation without feeling like you’re shouting over noise. Overall, this is a five-star go-to spot for me. Consistent, flavorful, and reliable every single time. If you’re in the Chicagoland area, especially near Elmwood Park, New Star is definitely worth checking out.”
“Save your money! I was weary when I saw how extensive their menu is, there are few places that can make that many items well, and I was right! I adore Asian cuisine and have been fortunate to travel to all the countries this restaurant highlights. I wanted to try some staples that no Asian restaurant should get wrong, and each dish was worse than the next. 1. Chicken and rice soup was bland, they literally took plain water, added white rice and unseasoned chicken breast. My picture shows a red broth becasue i added so many things to save it, but nothing helped. 2. The cucumber salad was NOT as described, it said there were red onions and no such onions were present. In fact the cucumber were sitting in sugar water but had no salt and were mushy. 3. Last, and definitely the most disappointing was the appetizer sampler. The fried foods were soggy, the pork rubbery, and the sweet and sour sauce was even bad!”
“Normally, I love Asian food but my wife who has celiac disease got very sick from her allergy to gluten here. We are normally pretty selective on where we go so we dont risk getting cross contamination but the GF community swears by it and we took a chance on this place. I went way outside of my comfort zone and ordered "Moys Special" because it was the first choice on chefs recommendations but it tasted like artificial brown gravy and my noodles on the outer edge of my dish were very hard, like uncooked Ramen. Overall I dont think I'd order something like that again. Also i would rate the crab ragoons 3 out of 5. My wife ordered the orange chicken (GF),which was better but also too spicy for me. It was a good portion size at least! I normally don't leave bad reviews but I felt like I needed to let the GF community know to really emphasize the allergy to your waiter, and be careful if your symptoms are really bad.”
