Saffron Indian Restaurant
Indian•$40 and under
Hot, Sweet and Indian Sharing its moniker with the most precious and exotic of spices, Saffron lives up to its name. In a little shop a bit like the Tardis (it’s magically bigger on the inside) you’ll find Saffron down at the Inglewood end of Beaufort Street, which is an area that is getting quite a buzz about it. You’ll find the staff charming, helpful, discreet and knowledgeable. The decor is effortlessly sophisticated and the atmosphere is soothing and conducive to a fine dining experience. The menu offers traditional regional Indian food, expertly prepared and presented. If you can handle it, try the seriously hot Chicken Vindaloo – the Goan vindaloo sauce is one of the chef’s specialities. For a milder, but no less flavoursome taste experience, the Chicken Marsala combines succulent boneless chicken pieces with an onion Marsala sauce and fresh cream. They have a busy takeaway trade as well, so if you’d rather eat in front of the telly… Best dish: Prawn Jhal Frezi
