Markette is a modern European restaurant with Caribbean influences from Chef India Doris, formerly of two MICHELIN-starred SAGA, and restaurateur Alex Pfaffenbach (Eleven Madison Park, Quality Branded). Located in the heart of Chelsea, the restaurant’s seasonal menu draws from Chef India’s British-Caribbean roots and her culinary experience across London, France, and Spain. The richly layered dining room features velvet chairs, warm banquettes, and custom finishes that create an intimate yet lively atmosphere. A creative cocktail menu, led by Chris Figueroa (Overstory, Crown Shy), highlights bold, unexpected flavor combinations alongside elevated non-alcoholic options. Open nightly for dinner, Markette brings bold flavors and vibrant hospitality to one of New York City’s most dynamic neighborhoods.
“I’ve been eyeing this restaurant for a while, so I was really excited when I finally got the chance to try it, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was gorgeous. We arrived a bit early, so we waited in the downstairs lounge, which I didn’t even know existed. It was beautiful with such a nice, elevated vibe. When our table was ready, we were escorted back upstairs. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and everything was delicious. The jumbo prawn was unforgettable! I’m still thinking about it. The oxtail gratin was another standout for me. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It’s perfect for a girls’ night out or a date night. I didn’t get to try any cocktails this time, but I can’t wait to go back.Everyone kept saying how amazing they were.”
“I saw a feature on Eater and had to give it a try, it definitely didn’t disappoint. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the drinks were creative, flavorful, and a refreshing change from the usual restaurant offerings. The Hamachi Crudo was incredibly fresh and paired beautifully with its sauce. The Salt Cod Fritters were perfectly fried without being overly fishy, and the aioli complemented them well. The Grilled Prawns were cooked just right and served with a bouillabaisse that was so good we ended up ordering a second round, should’ve listened to our server and ordered two from the start. The Braised Oxtail Gratin was rich and flavorful, almost like an oxtail shepherd’s pie, I just wish the portion was bigger. The Pan-Seared Dorade had perfectly crispy skin and was paired nicely with its sauce. The Curried Scallops were cooked to perfection, served with an incredible curry sauce and coconut rice that we had to order more of (though I would’ve loved a few extra scallops). The Peri Peri Chicken stood out as one of the best I’ve had, juicy, well-grilled, and packed with flavor, with just the right amount of heat. The Lamb & Roti was another highlight, with fall-off-the-bone tender lamb and a unique pairing with fava bean sauce. The roti itself was exceptional, flaky, buttery, and soft, making it the perfect companion to the dish. Overall, it was an amazing experience at Markette. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and full of bold, colorful flavors. My only complaint is that I wish the portions were a bit larger because I wanted more of everything. If you’re looking to try something different, I highly recommend making a reservation and giving Markette a try.”
“Believe the hype! My daughter and I celebrated my birthday on 4/6 and it was an amazing experience. The ambiance, bar, decor, food, staff...everything was excellent! 10/10 I will definitely be back. The courses are shareable, so order multiple dishes. For solo dinning, step outside of your comfort zone. Shout out to our mixologist, Raul. We thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails and the crémant. ~Salt Cod Fritters 10/10 pillowy texture hidden in a crunchy coating ~Hamachi Crudo 10/10 I'm still thinking about that fish ~Grilled Prawn 10/10 I wanted to lick the plate ~Braised Oxtail Gratin 10/10 I'm not a fan of polenta, but this dish changed my mind. ~Peri Peri Chicken 10/10 the buttermilk ranch catapulted the flavors Cocktails: ~Cease and Desist 10/10 Whoever is responsible for creating this drink deserves a raise ~Blue Jean Baby 10/10 Great starter drink. “Let's get the obvious out of the way first: Yes, Markette is overpriced, overhyped and over-exposed. It's definitely having its 15 min of fame in the influencer-sphere, so plan accordingly if you want a resy--and don't be surprised to see clientele dressed to the nines with tripods and ring lights. I knew this going in and expected to dislike my wallet-depleting dinner, much as I've disliked 90% of the overhyped NYC restaurants I've been to recently. But, I actually....enjoyed?....myself. Everything we got was tasty and not as teeny-tiny portioned as I expected. The Roasted Sunchokes were delicious and covered in a lovely, savory, foamy sauce that made me want to lick the plate. Our Rock Shrimp Linguine was the only dud--a bit too sour even for me, and not enough precious, precious rock shrimp to satisfy my crustacean craving. But the tender Braised Oxtail Gratin helped, with its savory crispy polenta. The Pan-Seared Dorade was well-cooked, and uniquely complemented by sweet plantains, swiss chard and chermoula. Surprisingly--and not surprisingly--the star of our table was the insanely photogenic, Instagrammable Peri Peri Chicken. It was as juicy as it was colorful, and its gorgeous buttermilk ranch sauce should be served as a smoothie, it's so good. Service was pretty friendly, and the decor was as modern, chic and trendy as any episode of "And Just Like That". Come with at least a group of four to get past the high price points--$5 for a cup of hot jasmine tea...in a tea bag....--and you'll do all right.”
“A very cute and cozy spot with low lighting and perfect atmosphere for a dinner conversation. The food overall is quite good my one gripe is that for somewhere with so many great sauces at the center of dishes there’s no bread to enjoy the sauces with! A lot of the great sauces go to waste. Saltfish Cod fritters with scotch bonnet sauce: first part of the meal and honestly was probably one of the best if not the best thing we had last night. The fritters were crunchy outside and soft inside. The sauce was perfect!! Hamachi Crudo was delectable! Melted in your mouth and that green sauce 10/10! Scallops were a true winner! The sauce went to well with the rice. The scallops were rendered and cooked to perfection and the little bits of potato in there were perfect. be sure to pour the sauce over that rice!! Prawn! The Prawn might be neck and neck with the fritters in terms of my favorite. It’s quite small but dang does it pack a flavor punch! It’s heat and tangy and very powerful! I would’ve loved bread or nan or something to sop up that sauce! Peri peri chicken came out after the prawn and it was a little bit of a let down especially compared tot he prawn. It was not as flavorful and little on the dry side. Not terrible but definitely not our favorite thing from the night. We ended with the pineapple tart tartin which was a real winner! Flaky crust and thick pieces of pineapple. I’m not a pineapple lover but quite enjoyed it. I’d like to come back but would love something to eat those sauces with! So much good flavor should not be on the plate going back to the kitchen.”
