Known by generations for her hospitality, proprietress Elouise Adams Jones, a.k.a. Ouisie, serves an eclectic collection of Southern foods with an excellent wine list to match. High ceilings and fans in the main dining room it evoke the ambiance of a Texas manor house. The adjacent dining porch overlooking the patio and garden, as well as Cooper’s Wine Bin, provide additional dining and entertaining areas. The daily fare encompasses traditional offerings like her well-loved pimento cheese, the shrimp and grits, and the popular Gulf Coast oysters to the favorite Tuesday special Ouisie’s award winning chicken fried steak with corn pudding. A fine plate of grilled Prime beef tenderloin or a brace of quail stuffed with super lump crab meat with Cognac glaze are good examples of the daily specials one might find on the blackboard. Lunch and dinner daily, brunch on weekends.
“Very large restaurant. We had a reservation for two on a weekday and had no trouble parking and getting a table. The server was great and had great recommendations. My boyfriends fish had a perfect crust to it. The pictures do it no justice. We're coming back for sure. I will say the building itself and the decor looks pretty old but it had an overall vintage vibe going for it.”
“Impeccable. The meals were delicious, the service was exemplary, the environment was welcoming. Came here for a business meeting and it was idyllic. The decor above the bar certainly raised eyebrows, but apart from that, wonderful. I enjoyed the flounder with asparagus. Delicious, well cooked. The price is reflected both the quality of food and the quality of service. I felt like I got good value. Worth the visit.”
“The place was cute and had a musician playing live on the piano, which sounded amazing and created a great atmosphere. They offered both $5 valet parking and self-parking if available. The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and funny. We were there with a large group, and they were able to accommodate separate checks without any issues. They bring out an assortment of mini muffins for the table, which was a nice touch. My husband ordered the steak and eggs, and it was delicious—definitely our favorite dish. I enjoyed it even more than the breakfast quesadilla, although the quesadilla was very good as well. My son wasn’t particularly impressed with the chicken and waffles. The coffee was also good. One thing to note: they advised us there is a $5 per person fee if you bring in a cake. Overall, we had a great experience and would return. 😊”
“Excellent service, a real presentation of the food, all courses. I did restaurant week, but most at my table ordered off regular menu. The desserts were not as good as they sounded, but the entrees were great. A little heavy on the salt, but otherwise good. My family lived the Paella, and the beef medallions were rich and the appetizers of fried asparagus and a mix were good, but my favorite was the shrimp cocktail. Would get that again. We were in a private room for 8, and we had an excellent time. Valet is necessary, but I felt good about parking.”
“Two of us came here to try this place out for a date night. Maybe their specialty is seafood or maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes because we felt the quality was not there. I got a ribeye and he got a chicken dish and my ribeye didn’t seem like a good cut. The chicken was better but overall nothing memorable. We decided to skip dessert. We wouldn’t return based on the food but the service was very nice. Maybe other dishes have better quality.”
