Sailor is a neighborhood bistro celebrating Chef April Bloomfield’s menu of elevated takes on familiar dishes. At the heart of the restaurants is it's deep wine list, which ranges from easy drinkers through classics and more esoteric selections. Tying it all together is the thoughtful service that Happy Cooking Hospitality has become known for.
“We had a fantastic brunch at Sailor. I originally considered the French toast but decided to try the Turkish eggs and am so glad that I did. The smoked turkey Reuben was also excellent. The olive oil cake is better than mine and I will definitely alter my recipe. We will visit again.”
“Enjoyed Sailor. Went on a Friday for lunch so no French toast. Enjoyed the deviled egg and the Caesar salad is refreshing, but the dressing is pretty sharp and acidic if you like a creamier version. Just fyi. Really enjoyed the burger, in my top ten in NYC. Great decor and service. Want to return and try the French toast and their dinner.”
“Such a cute little brunch spot. We decided to share everything, which felt like the right move because we could sample each dish. The burger was delicious, cooked perfectly medium rare with that juicy, just right center. But my personal favorite? The Turkish eggs. Absolute saucy perfection. They came with a puffy flatbread that paired amazingly with all that rich, flavorful goodness, though I do wish the bread had been bigger. The sauce was just too good, and I needed more to soak it all up. The true star of the meal, though, was the French toast. Thick and drenched in a maple syrup with a vanilla cream dollop. I highly recommend ordering it almost as a dessert and eating it right away. We waited a bit while finishing the savory dishes, so it wasn’t piping hot by the time we dug in, still delicious, but it definitely would’ve been even better warmer. Definitely a spot worth returning to 🍳”
“Builds its maritime identity through detail. Wood-paneled walls, deep blue accents, and a room that feels like a refined cabin at sea, even if you’re firmly in Brooklyn. It sets the tone for a slower kind of brunch. The green salad opens things cleanly. Fresh greens, pumpkin seeds adding a gentle crunch, and an oregano vinaigrette that stays subtle. Then the turkish eggs arrive, and they’re excellent. Soft poached eggs melt into chili oil and yogurt, warm and unexpectedly addictive. The french toast is the centerpiece. Polenta bread gives it a distinct texture, crisp outside, custardy inside, with a slight nuttiness that plays well with the vanilla cream melting into the maple syrup. It’s easily worth the reservation alone. The fennel salumi scramble is savory and steady, eggs soft, pecorino folded in just right. The smoked turkey reuben holds its own, with crisp bread and balanced layers, the cornichons doing quiet, essential work. Brunch here lands exactly where it should, comforting, elevated, and worth repeating.”
“Beautiful restaurant nestled in Fort Greene, it makes for a cute spot to grab a drink with friends, with a $9 house white/red (Riesling this time for white) offered. Had a welcoming and upbeat server, but the service was general slower and not rushed, 2.5hr for our meal. I was excited as the dishes sounded unique and promising but a lot of them fell short: The egg tonnato didn’t have much flavor, the herb oil only adding a slightly grassy taste. I was excited for the hiramasa crudo, but it was bland and one note, even the mild pomelo overpowered the fish because of how little flavor. Fried anchovies were tasty and paired well with sage but the portion is so small for the price. What went well: sea bass was very well cooked, very soft, flaky, well flavored. Was under salted but I could add that myself. The pork was also well cooked, tender, generous portion of meat that paired well with the cherry. We finished off with the burnt caramel tart, which had a good flavor although the texture was on the softer side. I don’t think the creme fraise really complemented it, but still tasty. There were some good dishes and Sailor is a vibe, but the price point and what we received I’m not sure if I’d return for a meal.”
