“Great place. You can't beat the happy hour menu here. It's probably the best in San Francisco. You get really good calue. We love the pear/dates salad and the octopus. The crusted salmon is really delicious as well. Been here 3+ times. Great service; very attentive with filling your glass and changing out plates. And the best part, unlimited sparkling water!!”
“Classic American comfort food in an excellent upscale atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our 3 course restaurant week dinners. Service was first rate and each course was amazing. I can’t wait to bring our family back. Yes the KEY LIME Dessert is the best I’ve had in years!!! I’m excited that the restaurant can accommodate dietary restrictions.”
“What a delicious time. We enjoyed appetizers during happy hour ($10.00 each) the mortadella & crescenza fondue excellent, the charred octopus fabulous, and the smoked trout deviled eggs stunning. The fried chicken w grilled scallion and pickled pepper potato salad (losts of celery), smoked jalapeño buttermilk was chicken chicken , a dining winner, while the blue plate meat loaf whipped potatoes with blue lake green beans is a must return reason. Pan roasted rock fish w romano beans gypsy pepper pastina harissa-orange broth sungold tomato raita. This place was very narrow. All of the dishes were well plated, with generous portions. Thank you for an excellent dining experience.”
“We’ve come here for happy hour twice. Made a reservation to make sure to be seated, was easy to get last minute reservation. Their outdoor patio is very nice when the weather is nice. They didn’t specifically tell us about happy hour when we were seated, and we had to ask about it and they explained that it was $10 appetizers, $5 beers and $8 wines. We tried all the appetizers and our favorites were the octopus and arancini. While food was good and happy hour selection and prices were decent, service was very slow and it’s hard to get the staff’s attention. They didn’t come by or actively check if we needed them, and we had to try to get their attention n several times without them seeing. The first time we thought it was because we were seated in the patio and there were more people, but the second time we were inside and the place was much emptier. When we finally got the waiter’s attention to order, happy hour time was over and he said he could only give us the happy hour price for drinks and not food. After explaining that we were trying to get his attention for a while he agreed to honor the happy hour price, but we didn’t feel great about needing to have this interaction. So would recommend coming earlier if you’re here for happy hour.”
“Blue Plate offers elevated American cuisine, but the overall experience was disappointing. The chicory salad with dates was very good, with a tasty dressing and nice balance. The charred octopus had a great, tender texture but lacked any real charred flavor and felt flat and boring. For mains, the salmon was tasty but unremarkable. The steak was served as several pieces rather than a proper cut, ordered medium but arriving closer to medium-well to well, with some chewy parts. The salsa and potatoes were fine, but the dish did not meet expectations. Dessert, the brownie with ice cream and whipped cream, was underwhelming. The brownie was chewy and lacked a deep soft chocolate flavor, and the ice cream and whipped cream were very standard. Service was okay but not particularly friendly. The restaurant was very loud, the chair unstable, and the table uncomfortable due to poor legroom. Overall, not bad, but not good either. I would probably not come back.”
