Campeche Restaurant has been serving Authentic Mexican Food since the late 1970’s. What does “Campeche” mean? Well, Campeche is actually a city in Mexico located on the Gulf of Mexico, where grandma was born. Grandma was the original CEO and Founder of Campeche Restaurant! She wanted to name the company after her hometown since the majority of her recipes are from there. Our family recipes have been passed down for 3 generations including her Famous Homemade Margaritas and Pico de Gallo. The company first started in 1978 in the Chicagoland area and has been family owned ever since. With 5 locations in the North Side of Chicago and the latest one here in Galena, IL.
“My husband and I did the tequila tasting and would highly recommend it. Josh is so engaging and has such a passion for tequila and did a great job teaching us things about tequila we never knew. Such a unique event to do whether you’re here on vacation or a local wanting to do something new. Of course we stayed after the tasting to eat dinner, which, like always, was delicious. We are Galena locals and have been coming to this family run restaurant for the past 15 years! Amazing food, staff, location, ambiance.”
“Campeche is one of our favorites! The chunky guacamole is the best in Galena! Food is always great- shrimp tacos being one of my go to’s. The Fresca Margarita wins hands down ( although I just learned about making it with the coconut Tequila and that is even better! ) Service is excellent- always with some fun conversation too. We ate upstairs for the first time on May 5, that is very cool too. Great job Erik! Will be back on the patio for guac and margs soon!!”
“We had a fantastic time on Valentine’s Day ! Our server was absolutely amazing! She kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything. She was fabulous! ( we rented one of the igloo’s and it was a perfect night ) The Margaritas are the best we’ve had in the Midwest ! We’ll definitely be back soon !”

“We visited Galena for a birthday weekend and took a hotel recommendation for Campeche Restaurant. It was a huge disappointment, especially considering how expensive it was for the quality provided. We ordered the shrimp tacos and steak enchiladas, but both were completely flavorless. The shrimp had a strange, off-putting texture and tasted like it had just been boiled without any seasoning, while the steak was incredibly dry. Honestly, you would get more flavor and better value for your money at Taco Bell.”
