Ruby Sunshine Downtown Charleston is a Brunch restaurant in the Downtown Charleston neighborhood of Charleston.
“This was a last minute decision ~ eating here, but we were glad we did. Interesting atmosphere. The food was so good. My husband had eggs, bacon, fried green tomatoes, and grits ~ he is a grit snob ~ he liked them how they were served and said he would go back for more. I had the shrimp bennie and loved it. The beignets were great and the coffee was just right. Good job!!”
“We love Ruby slipper, which is a sister restaurant to Ruby sunshine. Well, the food was the same quality, our visit felt a little off, even though we were the only people in the place at the time. Not a lot of attention to empty water classes and coffee cups. I would go here again though just because the food is so good.”
“My husband and I are eating breakfast here everyday on our vacation. The food is delicious! I will probably eat the Berry Chantilly Stuffed French Toast every morning for the rest of our trip! Cash is an awesome waitress! She took great care of us and has an awesome personality. She went above and beyond making sure we had everything we ordered. See you tomorrow! Thank you!”
“Happened upon this place on a morning walk and was wonderfully surprised by the friendly service and delicious food. Located on Bay st, the building has an inviting exterior and was already open when a lot of other breakfast spots weren't. I was greeted matter-of-factly and seated facing out to their lovely side patio. The menu was a wonderfully wide range of breakfast options, from 6 different "bennies," to sweet crepes and several Southern staples; even a traditional Costa Rican breakfast option! I opted for the shrimp and grits - which was absolutely delicious and hopefully an indicator of their food quality overall. It was served with one if the best, fresh biscuits I've had in years. The only minor let down was the espresso, which was good, but not great. The entrance features two bar set ups, which I imagine can be wonderful at different times of day/year. The dining room itself was unremarkable but absolutely clean and spacious. Absolutely worth a visit for breakfast and brunch.”
“We came to Ruby Sunshine for brunch about 45 minutes before closing and were pleasantly surprised at how warmly we were greeted and seated. We even asked if it was okay since we didn’t want to run them over time, and the staff was genuinely happy to have us. We ordered quickly, taking our waitress’s recommendations: the Nashville Hot French Toast Bites, the Nashville Hot Chicken Biscuit, and a NOLA coffee. The coffee was just okay (a bit too milky for my taste, even after asking for half the amount), but I’ve learned not to expect amazing coffee while traveling, so no big deal. The food, however, completely made up for it. The Nashville Hot Chicken was perfectly cooked juicy, spicy, with a touch of sweetness that balanced everything beautifully. The homemade buttermilk biscuit was so good it had both of us smiling after the first bite. The French toast was a standout too, on the firmer side, which we loved because it held up to the Nashville hot sauce and syrup without getting mushy. Our waitress was fantastic, very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and were happy with our meal, all while helping to close up the restaurant. Overall, this was a great brunch experience with excellent food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I could definitely see this place getting busy, so I’d recommend coming right at opening or about an hour before closing like we did. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!”
