“Delicious experience! I went with my extended family (16 people) for a reunion and they gave us tables together on the upper patio. We went late in the evening Sunday so the heat outside, and the sun, was a bit hard to manage, but not their fault. They do have large umbrellas outside thankfully. I got the smoked whitefish dip for the table, and ordered the scallops, and both were excellent. The whitefish dip was lightly smoked, creamy and had nice flavor, and came with thinly-sliced house-made potato chips. The scallops were perfectly cooked, tender, crisp on top, and had small scoops of avocado that paired beautifully with the toasted cake of white grits. The presentation was beautiful as well. We had a great time! A bit pricy, but for fine seafood dining in inland Dexter, Mi, that is to be expected I suppose.”
“This space has changed hands a few times over the years. The folks at 42 North Social House have restored it to its former glory in a few ways. First, the atmosphere is quieter and more comfortable. Second, the service was prompt, knowlegeable, and friendly. Finally, the food was delicous! My wife had a salad with salmon on it. The salmon was a non-menu addition that made her very happy. The dressing was not too heavy and the fish was cooked perfectly. We shared some carrots that has a very nice sauce and they were also cooked perfectly. Not too soggy and not too crunchy. I have the jambalaya. I've had a lot of bad ones above the Mason-Dixon line, so I was hesitant to order it. Our server said another guest told him it was the best he'd had up North and he was apparently from New Orleans, so I ordered it. It was very good. The rice was cooked perfectly and the balance of ingredients was spot on. I particularly appreciated that it wasn't over-salted, a common problem with this dish.”
“I visited to celebrate a birthday. We dined on Friday night at 6 pm. The place was packed for happy hour, after work social gathering. By 7:30 it was about half full. Parking is tricky. If the spots on the street out front are full, the neighborhood behind is a good option. The service was great and attentive. The drinks (mezcal on the rocks, and Argyle Pinot noir) were well presented. I had calamari (could be more crisp), smoked whitefish spread (had to ask for more homemade chips), the filet med rare topped with roquefort blue (perfect), and beet salad (excellent). The menu has been pared down. This is usually a good choice as it allows the staff to focus on what they do well. The best upscale dining option in Dexter.”
“Dinner at 42 North Social House was a treat! The crispy calamari was crunchy and tasty with the dipping sauces, the chicken paillard was fresh and full of flavor, and the Caesar salad hit the spot. But the real star? The bread — hot, crispy outside, soft inside, with butter so good we could have made a meal of it. Great vibe, good service, and food that makes you want to come back.”
“House Manhattan was very tasty and ample. Likes the spherical ice. Tomato Bisque was rich and creamy but came out lukewarm. Jambalaya was very good and not too spicy. Scallops were excellent, moist and cooked just right. Served with grits formed and slightly crispy. Very nice. Service was great and attentive. One of our meal requests for non dairy was forgotten but the replacement meal came out very fast. Would definitely go back.”
