Frena is a modern Middle Eastern concept in Hell's Kitchen that celebrates a rich heritage of food, wine and tradition. The restaurant is named for a Moroccan oven often shared by a community. Frena’s own oven stands as a centerpiece of the restaurant, producing dishes from seasoned stones. Frena embodies the spirit of togetherness and camaraderie, which can be felt in the shared dips and frena-fired breads it serves. From tantalizing shared platters to frena-roasted meats and fresh, fragrant bread, customers will enjoy a new take on Middle Eastern food that draws inspiration from Chef Naon’s French culinary training and Moroccan heritage. The dining area offers views of stunning bar area with greenery. The Chef's Area offers views of the kitchen and a more intimate dining experience. Great for pre-theater dinner with early reservations available.
“Neighborhood spots like Frena are exactly why I love NYC dining. The dip trio with warm Frena bread, za’atar scallops, and that incredible lamb terra cotta fresh out of the oven. Everything was perfect- the service, ambience and delicious food - truly an unforgettable meal.”
“Possibly one of the most exquisite East / Mediterranean restaurants in NYC. Rich and fresh flavours, that your tastebuds will remember and crave for a while... constant quality and taste over several visits. Highlights are the homemade bread, the dips and for sure the Soutzoukakia - to die for! Great location, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere in midtown Manhattan.”
“Love. Love. LOVE. The service was incredible. You HAVE to order the dip trio (choose your favorites). George was our server, and he was so kind. He gave recommendations and they did not disappoint. We had other stops on our wishlist, but decided to return to Frena instead. ✨”
“Overall the atmosphere can get super loud and very hard to have convo. The food here is continue to impress and each dish is very well presented and tastes. Frena bread is the go to and clearly I was too exited to eat instead of taking pictures. Octopus was great compliment well with refreshing salad. Oxtail tortellini is tender and savory. Just the right texture. Coconut pudding is not too sweet and absolutely delicious with the rose water syrup at the bottom. I’ll come back again :)”
“It was a good experience. We enjoyed dinner. Our server was amazing—very sweet and fun. We could see the staff working very hard. I would rate the food 8.5. I was disappointed during the main course. The chicken was warm, not hot. The octopus was extra charred; maybe some people enjoy it, but I prefer a lighter char. The salmon was okay. The highlight for me was the shrimp special. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name. I might come back again, maybe on a different day at a different time.”
