“This place was phenomenal and really lived up to the hype. From Andhra Pradesh was my favorite appetizer. In terms of entrees, highly recommend the pumpkin curry (From Udipi) and the prawn curry (From Mangalore) - both were crowd favorites at our table of 7! The mango cocktail was delicious and both desserts (filter coffee tiramisu and paysam) were the perfect finisher. Wait staff was very helpful and attentive too. If you can snag a reservation, highly suggest visiting!”

“Kanyakumari Indian Restaurant was a really great experience. The food was very flavorful across the board, and you can tell the menu is well thought out with a nice balance of dishes. Everything came out fast, which I always appreciate. The ghee rice was especially flavorful and paired perfectly with the curries. The fish curry stood out it had deep, rich flavor with a really nice charred taste that added something extra. The shrimp curry was very good as well, nicely seasoned and cooked just right. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for flavorful Indian food that comes out quickly and is clearly prepared with care. I'd definitely come back.”

“The dosa was spectacular, I loved it so much I preferred two!! The waiter was wonderful but I want to also give a special shout out to the host because she was such a sweetheart! She did a great job. I loved the chicken curry dish but the fried chicken was not as memorable, I’d say you can skip it. I also loved the vegetable stew but warning it is spicy! I also liked the creativity of the shrimp idli. Great drinks - loved the lassi”

“Kanyakumari had been on our list for a while, and we were glad we got in right when they opened, even without a reservation. The ambiance was inviting, the service was attentive, and the drinks were well made. We really enjoyed the chicken appetizer, and the dosas, parotta, and neer dosa were all excellent. The curd rice balls were just average, and unfortunately, the fish curry was the biggest letdown. It was overly saucy and lacked the flavor we were expecting. Overall, it's worth trying for the atmosphere and some of the standout dishes, but it didn't completely live up to the hype.”

“The food was overall alright, but I cannot say it matches the prices the restaurant has put on it. Food- The goat sukka was phenomenal and one of the best dishes they served that night. The welcome rasam was really great and the lassi was pretty delicious. Cocktails were overall innovative and held their bargain. However, other dishes fell short of the glorious pedestial the prices sit at. The special baby goat biryani's only saving grace was the authentic rice they use while the mutton was dry and chewy, and the biryani overall lacked flavor. The shrimp idli, while innovative, failed to impress. But nothing beats the dissapointment of the fish curry which none of us could stomach more than two bites. We had such high expectations but the curry, absolutely failed to appeal. The presentation did invoke a sense of being at the coastal belt of South India but all through my travels and food adventures in that region, I refuse to accept that's how an Amma's mess curry tastes like. Their take at payasam was literally one ring of super sweet grilled pineapple drenched in condensed coconut milk. It works but is it worth $16? Ambience- We visited for a friend's birthday and reserved the table more than a month in advance. When we arrived our table was ready but it was right next to the bar with the highest traffic. For a reservation made with such advance notice for a celebration, one would imagine they would pick a better placement. Throughout our dinner we had high-traffic and constant shuffling. The restaurant music was pretty loud so you are basically telling if you want to converse. The courses felt really rushed and they were certainly churning tables to accomodate traffic. Pricing- When one goes to a restaurant that charges $9 for one piece of Apam, one expects equivalent ambience and relaxed service. When one orders a fish curry for $40, which doesn't even come with a side of rice, one expects it to deliver equivalent taste. Kanyakumari failed to deliver at both end comparative to the pricing. What we paid and what we got did not feel justified. I would probably not visit or reccommend.”
