Nestled in the heart of Union Square, Le Basque is an upscale vegan restaurant that masterfully blends the rich culinary traditions of France and Spain into a unique, plant-based dining experience. The name "Le Basque" pays homage to the Basque region, renowned for its vibrant cuisine that effortlessly marries the flavors of both countries.
“I went to this 100% vegan restaurant because of my cousin. She is vegan and we always go to a vegan restaurant when she is in town. Along for the dinner were her parents. My cousin said that this was by far the best vegan restaurant she has been to in New York City. I agree with her that this was a marvelous experience. The service was very friendly and helpful. I would describe the decor and atmosphere as relaxed elegance. For even more elegance make a reservation at the sky-lit mezzanine. All the plant-based dishes that we tried were all well executed. We also tried all 3 available desserts and they were wonderful.”
“I love all of Chef Vaknin's restaurants I've visited, and Le Basque is no exception! I made a work team dinner reservation here because my teammate is Vegan. This definitely impressed the group who couldn't believe several of the dishes were entirely vegan (the cheese board and the grilled chicken dishes, specifically). Because we were a large group, we asked the staff to recommend and order for us ... omakase if you will (we trust you!) They brought out many small plates - 2 of each - which were my faves of the night: I recommend the wild mushroom & truffle croquettes, romesco grilled chicken, and calamares fritos. They served us the two different paellas, the ravioli, mojo flank steak, and the polenta for the mains. At that point, we were getting so full from the small plates alone, that we probably only needed 2-3 mains instead of the 5, but we were celebrating that dinner, so why not! I recommend the ravioli and the mojo flank steak. Those were winning dishes that we finished despite getting full. We celebrated two teammates' birthdays, so the staff put candles on the entremet aux noisettes. They had also left a postcard on the table sharing birthday wishes, which was a cute touch! If you have a friend or loved one who is Vegan, take them here - or any of Chef Vaknin's other restaurants honestly - to impress them and treat them to a nice dinner where they can choose from the entire menu!”
“We came to celebrate our anniversary and had such a beautiful experience. The team treated us so warmly and made the night feel special from start to finish. Every dish was incredible — the burner-finished plate was amazing (both the show and the flavor!), and the vegan chorizo tasted unbelievably real. It’s impressive how everything is fully vegan and kosher yet still so rich and refined. The cocktails were perfectly crafted, and the lavender mint tea at the end was the perfect finish. A truly memorable dinner. Highly recommended for a special occasion”
“Le Basque completely surprised me in the best way. It might honestly be the best vegan restaurant NYC right now. The space is beautiful and intimate, the staff are warm and genuinely professional, and the whole experience just feels thoughtful without being over the top. The food was outstanding. The Escargot and the Wild Mushrooms & Truffle Croquettes were such a strong start, and the Mojo Flank Steak and Mushroom Paella were full of flavor and beautifully done. Desserts (Entremet aux Noisettes and Tarte au Citron) were the perfect ending. Even the cocktails were on point. If you’re searching for the best vegan restaurant Manhattan — or even the best French vegan restaurant NYC — this place absolutely deserves to be in the conversation.”
“Our server Justine was truly excellent—warm, attentive, and perfectly paced throughout the evening. The food was delicious and surprisingly filling. We especially loved the Calamares Fritos, Patatas Nravas, Truffle Shrimp Ravioli, and the richly flavored Port Beef Bourguignon. The beautifully curated Cheese Board and fantastic drinks rounded out the meal perfectly. For dessert, the Entremet aux Noisettes was absolutely outstanding—rich, silky, and the perfect sweet finish. The overall vibe was romantic and intimate, making it an ideal spot for a special night out. Highly recommend!”
