“I came here because Barbara Corcoran mentioned she loved it on Shark Tank and damn Barbara...I can see why! Living in NYC, it's genuinely hard to be surprised by restaurants anymore. The bar is just so high across the board that you start to feel like you've seen it all. But Shalom Japan is truly something else!!! The Jewish-Japanese fusion concept sounds like it could easily go sideways, but it actually somehow makes a lot of sense. Innovation without feeling overworked and tortured. The Jew Egg was incredible (yes it's actually called that), with such a unique and memorable flavor profile. I don't really like scotch eggs but I looooved this. And the Okonomiyaki with wagyu pastrami was TO DIE. I have never had better pastrami in my life. The other dishes were excellent as well, but those two were the clear standouts and alone worth the visit. The ambiance was warm and relaxed. We arrived around 6:30 on a Thursday to a quiet room, which filled up nicely by 7:30. Service was attentive and wonderful throughout. Definitely worth the schlep to Williamsburg from South Brooklyn, and that is truly saying something. Highly recommend.”

“I had been wanting to check this place out for about a year and I'm glad I finally got to try it out. The short version is I would definitely go back. I had the lox chicharron, jew egg, and matza ball ramen. While the lox chicharron was delicious, I was a little disappointed by the portion. It was 4 or 5 pieces. Having said that, I would probably still order it again. Perfectly crisp and salty. The jew egg is a must order. Perfect. Give me 1000 of them. Perfectly cooked runny egg, the sauce, the veg, the greens.. perfect. I was slightly disappointed by the matza ball ramen. I did get the dumplings add on, which alongside the noodles, was the best part. The broth was aromatic and rich. My issue was with the matza ball. This could very well be a me problem as I've only ever had store bought matza mix matza balls. I assume this was homemade because it was waaaaay more firm than what I am used to. It was overall a good bowl of ramen, but I don't think I'd order this one again. Service was decent. My server was very nice and answered my questions thoroughly and with patience but hardly checked on me during my meal. Although the dining room was filling up and the staff seemed fairly limited in numbers so I understand if they were stretched thin that night. I'll definitely go back and try the pastrami and hopefully they still have the lamb rib special”

“Disappointing Value for Money I visited with three friends, and unfortunately, the experience wasn’t the best. We ordered a few appetizers for the table and a main course each. The Food: The appetizers were surprisingly small and difficult to share among a group (even for just two people). While the service was perfectly fine, the flavors were just "okay״. The Value: This was the most disappointing part. The "pay for everything" approach felt excessive; they literally charge extra for every single addition, including $2 for spicy sauce/chili. When you’re already paying full price for a meal, being charged for basic condiments feels unreasonable.”

“Overall rating: 2 Wow okay so I’ve been wanting to try this spot after I saw a TikTok and mistakenly didn’t look at the google reviews before I booked. I was thinking maybe since we came when the restaurant opened the service would be reasonable because no one was there. It was not. The waiter rarely asked how we were doing or if needed anything or if we’re ready, you know very basic staff courtesies. My friend and I got the: - scallion pancakes: 3/5 mid - Wagyu sandwich: 3/5 not worth it - Ramen: 4/5 but nothing like show stopping The food was not worth the price or bad service. Do not recommend.”
