Josephine is an Italian & Pizza restaurant in the Somerville neighborhood of Somerville.
“Food and service were both spectacular. Pizza was shared as an appetizer and was extraordinary. Totally fresh ingredients and flawless crust. Clams and spaghetti was another great choice. Chocked full of clams, light lemon flavor, and great portion size. Desserts were also top notch Guillermo proved incredible service from the initial greet and all the way through payment. Fantastic server.”
“Great food, great ambience, and great service! We had the focaccia and Burrata avocado mash for apps and the spicy meatball deep dish for entree. The pizza in particular was amazing!”
“First time in Josephine after being recommended by a friend. The place looked amazing and the atmosphere was amazing. It was crowded but it never felt stifling. The chicken parm was the star of the show, the suppli was awesome but at $9 for ONE, seemed a little much. The Carbonara was good but definitely not the best in the business. I would say the meatballs was good but a little tough — would have liked a little more tender. The service was near flawless. Ask for Lozenzo Negro red wine, as recommended by our server, it was some of the best wine I ever had!!”
“Josephine is a solidly good Italian restaurant. The location, vibes, and service were perfect. The space is massive which feels incredible rare for a restaurant in Boston nowadays. Came here at 5:45 before a 7pm show and our server, Alexis, was really accommodating and friendly about making sure things came out in a timely manner without it feeling rushed. He even dropped off the check at 7pm on the dot. Now the food is where I have my complaints. At a baseline, it’s all good but it could’ve been better with just minor tweaks. The mozzarella sticks for example, the batter was too thick, reduce that by like 50%. The pizza needed to be cooked just a smidge longer because the crust fell through immediately. Then the chicken parm which is the size of a Ford F150 needed to pounded much thinner. The hashbrowns needed more of the cacio e Pepe sauce.”
“This was one of the worst restaurant experiences in Boston along with Nightshade Noodle Bar but for different reasons. The service was almost unbelievably chaotic. Despite plenty of open tables, it took 20 minutes just to be seated, and another 20 minutes passed before anyone even acknowledged us. We eventually had to wave down a server just to order. I understand being understaffed, but the team seemed almost angry. The disorganization was everywhere. Multiple neighboring tables ended up walking out, and others had to physically go to the bar to complain that they hadn't been served. As for the food, the pizza was decent, but the highly anticipated carbonara was inunderwhelming. To top it off, they completely forgot our drink order. It was pure chaos, and the management should do a better job operating the place. They clearly don't care.”
