“We were in Cedar Rapids last week so my wife could do some research on her family genealogy and had the great fortune of dining at Cobble Hill. It also happened to be our 40th wedding anniversary. We decided on the Tasting Menu and every course was fantastic. The wine pairings were exquisite and the complexity, as well as nuance of each course was exceptional. Kudos to Jason as our primary waiter and Claire for the wine pairings. If you are a local and have not dined there, shame on you. And if you are visiting Cedar Rapids, this is a must stop.”
“Highly Recommended: A Masterclass in Dining If you visit Cobble Hill, do yourself a favor: sit at the chef’s counter, order the tasting menu, and opt for the wine pairings. You will not be disappointed. Top to bottom, start to finish, the experience is excellent. We’ve visited twice now, sitting at the counter and doing the tasting menu both times, and we are already planning our next trip. While it may seem like a higher price for a 5 course meal (it's not, it's a steal for what you are getting it's well worth it) this is the time and place that it's worth the splurge and just enjoy it, it is well worth the price in every sense. You will walk away satisfied and wanting more, guaranteed. The tasting menu was different between our visits, and both were incredibly thoughtful with beautifully layered flavors. From the fish and beef to the pork and pasta, every dish was seasoned and prepared to perfection during both visits. The drinks are also equally impressive, their mixologists are some of the best. Their wine pairings are also the only one I can honestly say that we have experienced that was a perfect match for every flavor profile of each meal. Also, try the French Oak Old Fashioned, it is exceptionally smooth. My wife usually sticks to sweet, fruity cocktails, but she enjoyed this one so much she ordered her own the second time around. After six years of marriage, it was the first time I've ever seen her truly enjoy a whiskey based drink. Watching the kitchen crew work is also mesmerizing, dinner and a show. Beyond the food, the service is top-tier. The owners were there both times and actually remembered us after three months when we came in the second time. The whole staff from top down seems to care immensely for the work they are doing and it shows in the quality of food and service they provide. Cobble Hill deserves a James Beard Award and a Michelin star, full stop. Whether you stop in for a drink or go all-out on the tasting menu/wine pairings, let this amazing staff guide you through one of the best dining experiences you can have in Iowa. It’s officially our new Easter weekend tradition with my wife's parents. 100% worth it and already trying to figure out next time we are going to go again.”
“We started with the gnocchi and it was flavorful & for someone who doesn't love gnocchi, I was impressed! My partner had the Striped Bass & loved it. I had the Pork Belly & it was delectable. I love that they offer NA wine, as a non-drinker this offering is hard to find. We also had the Eton Mess + Honey & Olive Oil desserts. The eton was a perfect mix of chocolate & berries. The honey was also a great choice! Overall this is one of our favorite places, always impressed & satisfied.”
“What an amazing tasting menu experience! The decor makes you feel like you've walked into a movie set from the 30s. Antique furniture gives vibes of opulence, yet everything is warm and inviting. Seating is comfortable. Reservations were easy, and you can tell they spent time and care crafting the tasting menu and wine parings. I was excitedvenough to trybeach course that I did not get everything written down. 1st course was Carrot, kolrabi, emuilison garlic and one of my favorites of the night. Next was Rice vermicelli noodles lime braised lamb toasted peanuts, scallions-'asian inspired' they said and while good, did not mesh with the rest. 3rd was Green Garlic veloute pork tenderloin, garlic scapes,- deviously creamy and not too strong. Next was Flar iron steak , asparagus in a sauce I'll be talking about for years. Finally ' floating Islands' a marshmellow, strawberry, mint and cream desert that stole the show. Service was impeccable, smart and friendly. Excellent all around. You deserve stars.”
“One of the best ‘New American’ restaurants in Corridor area for a lot of reasons and recommend coming here if you can afford it occasionally. However, I was surprised on one dish for missing the mark this round unfortunately. For only being here once though and they change up their menu seasonal, I’m hopeful their ‘too salty’ dishes are few and far between. The service was good as they were knowledgeable on menu items. The ambiance was moody. They also have a wonderful bar area with a large upscale selection of drinks. Bathrooms were nice and it’s great to view the kitchen working away in the back area. Now for more food details. The group had the 5 course offering. Highly recommend the steak tartar as it was the groups favorite - “the Midwest’s poke bowl” . The least favorite was the scallop dish as it was way too salty it overpowered the flavor profile and was bitter. The agnolotti pasta, pork belly, and banana assortment dessert were delectable.”
