“Was there for a rehearsal dinner. The downstairs space is quite lovely. The food was impeccable and the service was good. My partner had come late and instead of him having a cold plate of food they made him a full round of the food so it would be fresh and hot. Notably good pasta.”
“We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Porta, and could not have been more happy with how everything turned out! The food is absolutely phenomenal, with plenty of delicious options! Our event took place on the south side of the rooftop, and the ambiance was *chef's kiss* perfection. A gorgeous sunset backdrop, rustic pizza ovens, and the option for heated lamps as the night got chilly – it really felt so cozy. Samantha was so responsive and helpful to work with leading up to the event, and the staff on the day of was friendly and efficient! This will for sure not be our last visit to our new favorite pizza spot (:”
“We came in for a large group dinner and had a really great overall experience. The food and drinks were excellent, the atmosphere was lively without being overwhelming, and the portion sizes were very generous. I also really appreciated that there were plenty of vegan and gluten-free options available, which made it easy for everyone in our group to find something they could enjoy. We were a pretty loud group in the space, and at times the servers and bartender seemed a bit less enthusiastic, which is understandable yet didn’t significantly take away from the evening. All in all, a fun spot for a group night out with good food and lots of choice on the menu. Pizza was excellent, salads were delightful too.”
“We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at Porta and had the best time! The food was delicious, service was great, and working with Samantha to plan the event was such a joy. Our guests loved the rooftop view and vibes. It was such a memorable night thanks to the entire Porta staff!”
“🍞 PREDATORY BREAD PRACTICES 🍞 The food here is exceptionally tasty. The servers are nice. But that's secondary to the bread situation, which is so clearly engineered to screw over the customer that I can't help but feel like I'm getting scammed when eating here. Let me elaborate. In this post-Covid world, I understand some restaurants charge for bread service. I understand Porta needs to make its Newark Ave rent. But why am I paying $4 for five small slices of dry bread? That's 80 cents per sad, pathetic slice. Other places that charge for bread make it an event. They make it luxurious. This bread is a slap in the face. The clear solution is to just not order bread. But no, the menu is designed so that you need bread. Want mozzarella? Ricotta? Well, if you want bread with it, that'll be $2 extra. Never mind that when I asked our poor server how one would go about eating these dishes without bread, they admitted it wasn't really possible. And then, to add insult to injury, you get a lion's share of cheese and AGAIN five paltry pieces of prison-grade bread, which is NOT proportionate to the amount of cheese you've been given, which means, again, guess what? You've got to order more crummy bread. That'll be another $4. Shall I bend over before or after the check comes? Seriously, either get better bread or stop so overtly screwing your customers over via menu design. I don't care how tasty your food is if you've ruined the sanctity of bread service.
