“We had a really enjoyable evening at St. John Marylebone. From the moment we arrived, Phillip the manager made us feel very welcome and was genuinely warm and friendly while seating us. We also had several lovely interactions with Stuart, one of the food runners, who took the time to chat with us whenever he brought over dishes, which added a lot to the atmosphere of the night. The food overall was excellent - the oysters, asparagus and liver were stand out dishes and I'll be dreaming about them until we can return. We ordered the pigeon which was cooked perfectly in some parts but tough/chewy in others. I was a little disappointed that the bone marrow wasn’t available, as it was one of the dishes I had been particularly looking forward to but our waiter explained it is only stocked at Smithfield location. Our waiter, Lewis was attentive and professional too, although at times we felt a little rushed when asking questions — though to be fair, we may not have been the easiest table after a few drinks. His recommendations were spot on with the Turbot and La D18 wine which paired beautifully with all the dishes. Overall, a great experience with memorable service and food.”
“Went to the original one a few years ago and came to this one recently. Usually, food is better at the original but that was not the case here. Was very impressed by the fresh ingredients and friendly staff. We were a walk in and we came quite late at around 9:30 and they were able to accommodate. The Madeline’s and potatoes were definitely freshly made. The rarebit was super flavorful and crunchy on the outside. The sauce on the octopus was also quite fresh and fragrant. We are Catholic and it was a Friday so we couldn’t eat read meat (only fish and veggies) unfortunately. Will have to come back for it next time”
“Had a great lunch at St John Marylebone. Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavour. The chicken pâté was exceptional, incredibly smooth, delicate and rich without being heavy. It was one of the best pâtés we’ve had. The Welsh rarebit was perfectly balanced with deep, savoury flavours, while the langoustine was beautifully cooked and wonderfully fresh. For the main course, we had the mackerel, which was outstanding. It was exceptionally fresh, cooked perfectly, and showcased just how good simple, high-quality ingredients can be. The food, atmosphere and attention to detail made for a fantastic lunch. We’ll definitely be back.”
“Good ingredients, simple and refreshing recipes. I do prefer their style of cooking for an authentic taste from the produce. Their menu usually includes choices of good quality offals that are rarely seen in restaurants. I do appreciate such elements of c19-20 London cuisine. Game meat options are usually good. Fish and meat dishes are solid. Always loved their desserts. I don’t personally like Madeleine but people I dined with often praised them. However priced at ~75pp excl drinks this is what I would expect. For this branch in particular, same day booking often possible and I have been visiting regularly for dinner and weekend lunch. I don’t see the quality difference from their St John St branch that might justify booking weeks in advance. However, tables are very closed to each other and the chairs aren’t the most comfortable ones. Bottom line the premise is well maintained and service is okay.”
“Exceptionally Disappointing. Was fed RAW PIGEON. Raw steak is already bad. But the fact that it's a literal PIGEON, makes the issue of significantly worse gravity. I acknowledge that pigeon is often served rare in fine dining. However this was cold and deep red, not just pink. The Pigeon Special was served cold with deep, dark red parts as shown in the attached image. Detailed Review: Atmosphere: Extremely Crammed Tables. Food can barely fit on the table. Virtually no legroom. Was practically touching feet with person on the other end (5'10" male) as a slightly above average (5'7") height female. Service: Felt neglected. Was very good with my allergies, very careful. However the service took a long time. They did not replace sharing plates after meals despite the sharing plates being completely dirty with residue from different flavors of strong food. Drinks: Good mocktail. Food: Apart from the fact that we were literally served cold, raw pigeon, the food was very inconsistent. Some meals were good. Some meals were very disappointing. Food is drenched in horseradish. All side salads are inedible due to this. Exceptionally disappointing as someone who was excited to go here due to positive ravings.”
