Thacher Winery is a scenic, family-owned, and operated boutique winery and tasting room in the heart of Paso Robles, California. Our wines are made with minimal intervention and native ferments created in the vineyard. This beautiful ranch offers plenty of fresh air and shade. Experience our delicious wines and excellent service. All of our tastings take place outside on our scenic patio. We have several tasting options and an additional one on Fridays; see details below. Feel free to bring a picnic or lunch to enjoy with our wines. We also have gourmet snacks- local cheeses, charcuterie are available in our bougie vending machine. No dogs permitted, we have free-range hens.
“This is a beautiful property with a vintage barn and you get to hang out with chickens!. Be sure to look for the resident Barn Owl, too! The wines are delicious. Try the cider as well. Thanks for a great afternoon.”
“Great experiance. I would recommend giving this winery a go. We went on Friday and they had 2 options for taste. One being traditional and the other being “ funky Friday “ which has some unique grapes that you wouldn’t normally see. We did the traditional but was allowed to try one from the other list which actually turned out to be my favorite. A Spanish grape varietal. I felt thier wines a very drinkable. Service was great , our tasting expert explained the wines , the winery and was very attentive in a good way. We sat outside, they had blankets to use which was a nice touch since it was chilly. Fun fact they got 5 chickens and a rooster running around. They hung out near us the majority of the tasting. Not bothering us just adding some charm to the experience. I felt the price was fair for the tasting. This winery is a solid 15 minutes off the main drag. I would recommend visting Denner Also if you are in the area.”
“This is the only winery I come back to time and time again, the wines are incredible and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. We did the funky Friday tasting for the first time and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We ended up buying 2 of the wines from the tasting menu - a Muscat Canelli (skin contact orange wine) and the Valdiguié Nouveau. Can’t wait to enjoy these back in San Diego! Thanks Thatcher team!”
“Fantastic winery about 20 minutes from downtown Paso Robles. Lovely tasting room with very friendly staff. The quality of the wine here substantially exceeded our expectations. They are making low alcohol bottlings with both typical regional varietals and unusual options with several bottlings below 14% AVA and many at or below 12%. Nearly entirely aged in neutral oak, the wines are food friendly and focused on allowing the grapes to express themselves. The staff went out of their way to find a bottle in their library of a sold out release. Kudos to Thacher on their service and focus on quality!”
“Wine is okay, used to be better than okay. I used to really enjoy the pet nat and the counoise. More recent releases have taken a boring turn on my tongue. Not a whole not of character or unique nuances in the wine lately. Also, not dog friendly, and hosts were not friendly when confronting me and my dog, who have tasted and relaxed there peacefully in the past—but I guess we won’t be doing that anymore. I was really excited to revisit and show my friends their wines, but we were abruptly turned away upon approaching the tasting room. I’m aware the property is on working farm land. Not only is my dog highly trained, he’s a service animal who also lives on a farm, no harm would have come from letting us relax there that day. Instead we went to another more welcoming tasting room, and bought several cases for an event I had coming up.”
