“My husband served in the Army and was stationed in German. He kept talking about his favorite beer. This place served his beer, and one of his favorite German dishes. He enjoyed the food. I didn’t care for it, but this experience was for him, and he loved it. We also listened to live music, while eating out on the patio. It was a very enjoyable experience.”
“Was on vacation from Wisconsin. I’ll say right up front I’m a big beer geek. I’ve been an all-grain award winning homebrewer since 1994 and I’m a certified level BJCP beer judge. Altstadt was great. The building and surrounding grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The beers were great. I REALLY appreciate the focus on German style beers and they do a great job of brewing them. The Pilsner is excellent. The Schwarzbier is superb. The Altbier is great. I had one non-German inspired beer…an American Pale Ale, Palma Sola. Very well done with a big hop aroma and good hop flavor. The food! Oh the food. We had 2 kinds of schnitzel, the Beef Bourguignon and the Texas Chili Burger. Everything was hot, fresh and DELICIOUS. If I had any criticism it would be that the one full pint I ordered (the rest were small flight size pours as I was driving back to Boerne) was the Pils and it was served in a shaker pint glass 😕. Imagine having it served in a Pilsner glass. It would have completely elevated it. Also, my shaker pint glass had a faint rim of soap about an inch from the bottom which created nucleation points around the glass. A focus on beer-clean glassware would also elevate things. Overall, AWESOME and HIGHLY recommended!! Prost!!”
“My husband and I visited Altstadt unexpectedly. It was a rainy Valentine's day and we had our dog with us. They were very dog friendly and accomodated us in their covered out door seating area. They brought our dog a water bowl with ice! We took advantage of their Valentine's meal. We shared the pork belly which was the perfect delicious bite! We were each given an entre - chicken schnitzel and Jager schnitzel both were delicious but the pork Jager schnitzel was out of this world! We split the peach dessert which was so unique and decadent and a generous severing! We took home a couple of bottles of rose. My husband had the house flight which was a nice break from wine tasting all day! Erika our waitress was the best! She was attentive and funny. Definitely our new favorite place!”
“My husband and I loved this brewery!!! Always been familiar with Alstadt but it was lovely seeing their castle like style exterior brewery, trying a flight, and having some bites! The hill country flight we both loved - schwartz was a fave (even for someone that doesn’t drink a lot of dark beers) and peach radler was a fave. We got to taste their doppelbach for fun which was delish! We got 6 packs of doppelbach and peach radler for $9.50 which was such good deal. Pretzel was BEST i’ve ever had - great crust and crunch and not all bread-y like most. We tried Chef’s recommended schmorgasbord - there was a couple meats we didnt care for but overall presentation and flavors of majority of it was delish esp the weisswurst, pork belly, the dried meats, pickles and fruits :)”
“If you’re searching for the BEST Ruben sandwich around, look no further! It was hands down my favorite ever! Hubby got the roast beef dip! Very good too! 100% scratch kitchen and farm to table fresh! Portions are HUGE so come ready to share! Beer was crisp, cold and very tasty! We will definitely be back!”
