Nestled in the Piedmont region of Virginia, east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and west of the fall line, sits Barrel Oak Winery. Home to Virginia’s “Most Family Friendly Winery in the World” – Wine Enthusiasts. Since the first vine was planted on our Delaplane farm in 2006, we have remained committed to providing our guests with premium examples of fine Virginia wine making. The 30-acre vineyard is home to a selection of traditional Vitis Vinifera and American French hybrids. Currently, there are ten varietals growing under vine including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Manseng, Petit Verdot, Seyval Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Traminette, and Chambourcin. We also grow Virginia’s premiere native grape Norton. Acquired by new owners in 2022, the local family is dedicated to furthering our longstanding commitment to quality, integrity, and guest experiences. This extends to our community. Being stewards of this land comes with a responsibility to our neighbors and visitors. The tasting room acts as a meeting place to sip the “fruits of our land” and give back to our regions needs by way of philanthropic activities. “After a long day exploring Luray Caverns, Barrel Oak Winery was exactly what we needed — a little rest, good food, great conversation, and of course… wine. On a rainy day, this place was buzzing with people and pups happily escaping the weather, and honestly, it made for such a fun atmosphere. Watching dogs and their humans relax together over good wine and laughter just felt like the perfect Virginia afternoon. The boys and I absolutely loved how dog friendly and welcoming Barrel Oak is. We shared a delicious gluten-free pizza, settled in, and enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Seyval Blanc — bright, crisp, refreshing, with lovely citrus and fruit notes that paired perfectly with our cozy rainy-day lunch. The views, the wine, the food, the community feel… it all comes together beautifully here. You can absolutely see why Barrel Oak continues to earn recognition and loyal fans. “We embarked on a girls’ weekend retreat in January 2026, celebrating 30 years of friendship and a birthday. Our destination was the stunning winemaker’s cottage, offering breathtaking views and a beautifully furnished home with all the amenities we could need. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our experience was fantastic. Adriana, Jen, and Zehra were incredibly helpful, checking in and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Sara M, our wine tasting guide, was an absolute delight. Her extensive knowledge of various wines made sure we all had a great experience, even with our differing preferences. We left with a substantial wine collection! Lori C, our trip organizer, made sure we felt at home and took care of every detail. As a token of her appreciation, she gifted us a bottle of her favorite wine. An unexpected treat was meeting the owner and winemaker, which added to the overall experience. I recently visited Napa Valley for wine tasting and can confidently say that our experience at Barrel Oak Winery was equally enjoyable, if not better. I can’t wait to return!”
