Black Rabbit Kitchen is a seasonal restaurant and cocktail bar, a hidden gem nestled in Nanaimo's historic train station. We cook from scratch, guided by what’s fresh and available from our local suppliers. the menu is designed for sharing — plates arriving as they’re ready, meant for the middle of the table. Thoughtful drinks, west coast–rooted cooking, and a room built for gathering.
“Fantastic food! We got the whole chicken, super flavorful. I loved the crunchy fried lemon pieces on the side. The caesar salad that comes with it was crunchy, saucy and cheesy! New flavors unlocked. The only dish that I didn’t enjoy (not pictured in the review) is the burrata (it had onions not sure why but wasn’t tasty). Everything else was a treat to my taste buds! I left happy. 😊 would come again!!”
“The place was just 10/10! Loved the Strawberry sumac mimosa, very fresh and different. I had an eggs Benedict, one of the best ones I’ve eaten, ever! Their potatoes literally taste like they’re airy or something “cloud potatoes”. I can’t quite explain, but they’re friggin delicious!! My boyfriend got the eggs and bacon sambo and absolutely loved it too! ☺️🥂 lovely waitress as well, I don’t remember her name sadly, but she was just awesome!”
“We went to Black Rabbit for Mother's Day and very much enjoyed the dining experience we received from a well put together staff. My last few experiences of high level food establishments have left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth with sub standard service. The black rabbit was the polar opposite. The service was impeccable while being friendly. Any 5 star restaurant is a bit of a gamble when the prices are higher the dish is expected to be memorable. We had the chicken with the crispy lemon slices. And yes the chicken was cooked to perfection and the lemon slices were even better. A dish you would lick the plate if you were home because the sauce has just the right balance within. It also comes with a refreshing Cesar salad. We also had the steak which was also cooked to perfection, with broccoli, potatoes and Crocketts which were very tasty. Out of the entrees we had. Our favorite was the chips with the tuna dip and the scallops. We also tried the radishes which were interesting. The food is a tad on the pricey side for the quantity but the quality is there. The menu changes constantly so it's a new adventure often. The decor could use a bit more but otherwise this place is great for a special dinning event. We had a drink the Southside Rabbit which was wonderful. If you eat earlier they also have a white rabbit coffee shop within the same building which used to be an old train station. If your celiac check this place out!”
“Their chickpea hash bowl for brunch was divine. The perfect balance of super crunchy potatoes and refreshing salad. The nduja was also delicious, but on the smaller side for a brunch item. We loved that they have specialty coffee drinks available from their next door neighbour white rabbit. Their coffee is excellent. Amazing flat whites and cortados. Overall a great experience for brunch.”
“The best potato hash ever! It was incredibly crispy without being greasy. The salad was also impressively fresh with a refreshing dressing that paired perfectly with the meal. The Masala Chai Latte, Eggs Benedict, and Frittata were all solid choices. The Socca was an interesting experience, though it wasn't quite my cup of tea. While the brunch options are great, I’d love to see a lunch menu added in the future for more variety. Overall, a lovely spot for a weekend meal!”
