TAKA is a Japanese restaurant in the Downtown Cookman neighborhood of Asbury Park.
“Taka offers delicious food and great atmosphere and service — make sure you take advantage of their lunch menu! The restaurant can get crowded in the summer, but we spent a delightful lunch there today. Our first time sitting at the bar where we had delicious drinks (expertly made by Chris) and enjoyed our favorite sushi rolls (Happy International Sushi Day!) and the bento box. It’s a lot of food! Generous servings. Delicious. (Paid) Street parking can be difficult to find.”
“I had to put in a review for Taka! The food was amazing, especially the rice balls, and specialty rolls. However, the real standout for me was their hospitality. I stupidly forgot to request soy wrapper instead of seaweed. Even though it was 100% my fault they completely understood and re-made my rolls eating the cost. That was extremely kind, and to me that goes the extra mile! I’ll be back again for sure!”
“Beautifully decorated for the season, service was top notch, decor was warm and cozy. Much larger of a space than it seems from the street. The service was excellent and the food, which can get a tad pricey, is worth every penny and was high quality and delicious. They have tons of specials, some not even on the specials menu just mentioned by the server. We got the hot saki which I highly recommend; 2 Maki tacos, 3 specialty rolls (one from the daily specials menu) and the pomegranate sorbet for dessert - all was superb. It was our first time there and we'll definitely be back.”
“Taka Japanese Restaurant is a long-time local gem in Asbury Park, known for reliably tasty cocktails, beef dishes, and fresh seafood. The Food: 🍤 Chili Shrimp: A delicious balance of heat and sweet. It was served piping hot, topped with jalapeño slices, red chili threads, and honey. Critique: The shrimp were slightly overdone/chewy on this visit. Tip: Mix the leftover spicy sauce with a side of white rice for a tasty side dish! 🍔 The Burger: The thick, medium-rare patty had a great beefy flavor. It was juicy and rich, served on an excellent bun. 🐚 Pan Seared Scallops: These were large and fresh, plated on cucumber slices in a moat of miso mustard sauce. Service: ⭐ Special thanks to Alex for the attentive and professional service. Her follow-ups and insider tips (such as combining the shrimp sauce with a bowl of rice) were spot on. Consistency Note: While the service was excellent, the kitchen had a rare off-night regarding execution (e.g., the overdone shrimp and shumai), likely due to the heavy dinner rush. Overall: A solid, high-end Japanese restaurant for business dinners or get-togethers.”
“I have been eating at this place, “Taka,” for several years and I used to always be satisfied with the quality and taste. However, over the past couple of months, the situation has noticeably worsened. This is especially noticeable with takeaway orders: the rolls often look sloppy, as if they were made in a hurry and without proper attention to detail. Today’s order was no exception — the pieces were awkwardly shaped and in one of them I even found a bone, which was very unpleasant. I would also like to point out the taste of the fish: it seems questionable, as if the product is not entirely fresh or has an off-flavor, somewhat like it has been smoked. It’s really a shame, because this place used to be one of my favorites. I hope the restaurant will pay attention to the quality and return to its previous standards, as it definitely has potential.”
