“Best burger ever! Outstanding food and service!! Five stars all around for Chez Fonfon! The food, service, and atmosphere were all phenomenal. Just make sure to get your reservations well ahead of time, because this place is popular for a reason—but it’s entirely worth the wait. Now, it feels a little bit like a culinary crime to walk into a gorgeous French restaurant and immediately order a burger, but trust me on this. They are famous for them, and it completely lived up to the hype. It was honestly the best burger I’ve ever eaten (they must grind their own meat!). It’s huge, too—so big that my friend and I split it, and they beautifully plated the halves for us (hence why the photo only shows half!). We followed up that masterpiece with the best coconut cake ever. A huge shoutout to our server, Drew, who was attentive, warm, and made us feel so welcome. Viva la burger! Don't miss out on this place.”

“This place was so good I came twice in my trip! Fantastic service both times at the bar. I got the fish paillard was delicious and also got the shrimp salad very good. I got the oyster po boy and the chocolate moose as well very good!”

“Wonderful experience! This was high on my to do list when visiting Birmingham. I recommend trying to get reservations. I unfortunately had to wait 30-40 min to be seated. I sat at the bar and had wonderful service. All the staff members were so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is super cute and classy. The food was delicious! I ordered the Croque Monsieur and it was very good. I would definitely have liked more béchamel sauce on it. It seemed like a grilled cheese with ham almost. However, it was very good just didn’t surpass one I had in NYC. I am not a French fry person typically however I love the skinny fries and the dipping sauce that came with them. Delicious! We ordered the basque cake for dessert. It was very good but again wished it was covered with more crème anglaise. Overall, lovely spot and if I visit again, I’ll be back!”

“What a find in downtown Birmingham. Very vibrant atmosphere, loved the overall vibe. Superb service, the staff were knowledgeable about the food and wine. Excellent selection of wine and the food was second to none. Highly recommended whether you are in search of a great French restaurant or just an amazing night out!”

“I walked right past it the first time. Had to pay attention to the name on the awning to find the entrance. I had the onion soup, which was dark, deep, and flavorful, though the crouton and cheese is smaller than usual. The cod special was perfectly cooked, tender and flaky, with a beautifully nice crust and paired with vegetables that balanced being both crunchy and tender. The pecan coconut cake was well made, but is probably best suited for someone who loves those flavors specifically rather than just dessert generally. Chez Fonfon produces quality food in a pleasant environment. While I'm glad I went, it wasn't the right place for me, especially for the price.”
