Pink Cactus is a Mexican restaurant in the Elliotborough neighborhood of Charleston.
“Great food and service! We're visiting Charleston for the first time and the waiter was welcoming and gave thoughtful suggestions about what to do around town ~ it made for a better experience. We also smashed all of our food! Everything was delicious.”
“I was looking forward to this place as it has been on my list for a while and it was just blah. I went with a group and the waitress informed us that we can't split the check. Weird but OK so 15 or so 1 person paid. I got 2 small tacos that had zero flavor, unseasoned steak, a tiny bit of green sauce, chopped onion, and a radish slice. They were not cheap either. Just no flavor. It was overall disappointing and with all of the authentic Mexican restaurants around now, I don't need to venture back.”
“Sad to say how disappointing my lunch was. Way overpriced! Cute place and service was friendly. I ordered ceviche expecting it to be sufficient for 1 at a price of $20. It was a tiny half filled bowl (like a small teaser salsa dish) and a tray full of chips. Not sure what the chips were for since the shrimp was large and the juice was liquid. There was no dipping involved. I feel like I paid $20 for a bag of chips and a few bites of shrimp. My bill was $34 for this, a Topo Chico water and tip. Definitely not worth it!”
“Went with a group and the most they can split a check is 3 ways. They did tell us before we ordered-still weird to me. Food is way overpriced for what you get. It was decent, nothing to write home about. Drinks were hit or miss. Small venue and pretty warm inside. Our server was nice! Picture attached. Ordered a carne asada quesadilla for $19. *The cups were mini water cups...meaning that plate was also small.* (I could also just not be a downtown girly pop. 🤷🏻♀️ )”
“Went for lunch today with a friend and was disappointed. The issue began when my coconut margarita arrived. I order this same drink every time I eat there, so I know how it normally tastes and looks. This one appeared chunky and separated, and after tasting it, it honestly tasted like canned coconut water with chunks floating in it and no detectable tequila. I stirred it thinking it just wasn’t mixed, but it still tasted extremely off. My friend tried it and had the same reaction. For comparison, I tried her Pink Cactus margarita, which clearly tasted like a properly made margarita with tequila, so I knew something was wrong with mine. When the waitress brought our food, I politely explained that the drink didn’t taste right and asked if she could just take it back, letting her know I was happy to switch to water. She offered to remake it, but I declined because I didn’t want to risk paying for another drink that I might not enjoy. She then insisted on bringing me tequila shots, which I said I didn’t want twice, but she brought out two shots anyways. My friend tried adding one to my drink to see if it would help , but it honestly made the drink worse so I didn’t drink it at all. Later, another waitress took over our table. When we received the check, the margarita was included. I explained the drink situation, including that the drink wasn’t touched besides two sips of trying it and that I had spoken to the previous waitress about it. I was surprised when I was told there is a strict “no modification” rule and that if you order something, you must pay for it. I didn’t argue at all and paid, but it was disappointing, especially when I’ve since seen owner responses to other reviews stating they are happy to refund items customers did not enjoy. This review is not about the money. It’s about customer experience and how situations are handled. I’ve happily paid for many meals and drinks before and never had a complaint. I also noticed another guest during our visit expressing dissatisfaction with their food, which added to the overall concern about consistency. ( first picture is their coconut margarita as advertised on Instagram and last 2 pictures is what I was served)”
