Demarchelier Bistro is a French restaurant in the Greenport Village neighborhood of Greenport.
“A hidden gem on the east end. Great French food and the art work on the wall is from the family. Do not miss the wonderful restaurant ...”
“Wow, we just had a sumptuous lunch at the bistro! I had the days specials, an appetizer of fresh sardines with a lovely baked tomato on the side and their cheese ravioli with a white wine and tomato cream sauce. My companions had some of their wonderful luncheon sandwiches. Everything we had was excellent! It was a cozy place for lunch and I can't wait to come back for dinner.”
“I went to watch a French soccer match because I’m a fan of PSG and I don’t have the channel at home. First, I had a fabulous lunch and great wine and the owner also loves soccer and the same team. It was the best way to spend an afternoon—great ambience and food!”
“The owner displayed an utter lack of respect for hospitality or our dining experience. We walked in for a late lunch, and the television was blaring with a sporting event. It was deafening – – we could barely conduct a conversation at our table. We asked her to lower the volume before we were seated and she said no – this was the quarterfinals of the event. There were literally two people at the bar, one with earbuds in and us. There are very few other dining options on Wednesday in Greenport in the off-season so we stayed. I asked again for her to lower the volume when play had stopped in between periods and she refused. She then proceeded to sit at the bar and scream, sing and cheer during our meal, notwithstanding our requests for some volume control. Appalling behavior for a business owner. We thought we would be eating at a fine dining establishment, not a noisy sports bar. If she needed to watch this game, she should put a television in the kitchen, so her patrons would be able to enjoy a decent meal. The food was delicious, but, although we live in Greenport, we will never be back.”
“What a disappointing dining experience. I can imagine this restaurant must have once served good French food but I get the impression they live off a past reputation and are no longer passionate about the food they serve. The menu is full of warnings too that sharing is not allowed and neither are deviations which should have been a warning sign. Seems to me we have some grumpy old restaurant owners who really ought to retire if they can’t hack it any longer. The steak tartare was very average. No tobasco available. The chicken with gratin dauphinois was a very small portion and tasted bland. Overpriced food and disappointing all round. I really don’t appreciate being served so called pommes dauphines which were straight from the freezer and not even hot or crisp. The only thing that was tasty was the bread and the chocolate mousse. There is no affordable wine available by the bottle either. The service was ok but we felt sorry for the waiter who had to serve us this below standard food.”
