Located on the second floor of a thoughtfully-restored masonic hall in the heart of L.A.'s Highland Park, we are proud to serve our neighborhood with thoughtfully curated food, drinks and music. We celebrate and continue the building's nearly century-long history as a community gathering place. Our menu blends flavors of the Mediterranean with coastal California cuisine, for thoughtful and fun to share dips, salads, small plates and entrees at affordable price points— making it an ideal destination for both everyday dining and special occasions.
“Wow! Out here on vacation and went to Checker Hall for lunch. The decor is incredible, very tasteful and hip, makes me rethink not only my whole home design but my life. This is the kind of place that makes you wish there was one in your neighborhood. What a great vibe, staff very nice and welcoming. Sweet seating on the 2nd floor arched balcony overlooking the Main Street. This would have been enough for me to give it a great review but wow… Let me tell you about the food. The middle eastern menu had so many great choices, we ordered way too many things but enjoyed all of them thoroughly. Definitely get the baba ganoush app with delicious fresh hot pita, the baby gem salad was fresh and yummy, mezze platter had everything you’d want - from fresh hot crunchy falafel, creamy humus to pickles and slaw. Schnitzel sandwich was the best I’ve ever had. If you find yourself in Highland Park I highly recommend you check this stylish and tasty place out! Heard they have great live music at night, want to come back again and again and like I said, wish we had a place like this in Nolita! Trust me. Just go.”
“Fabulous food. Stunning interior. And I can’t believe it took me this long. Checker Hall has been within 30 minutes of SFV all along — and somehow, I never made it here. That changes now. Tucked on the second floor next to the Lodge Room (a concert and events venue), the restaurant has a genuinely charming interior with an atmosphere that makes you want to linger. The staff knew their menu and it showed. But the real story is the food. Every dish brought something — bold flavors, thoughtful combinations, just the right touch of heat. The whipped feta is a non-negotiable starter, and the chicken and rice? Absolutely knocked it out of the park. Do yourself a favor and go sooner than I did.”
“One of the best mediterranean restaurants in LA! We went there to celebrate two of our friends’ birthdays and it was such a great experience! For starters we got whippef feta and baba ghanoush which served with 1 big pita for each person, it was so warm and soft you could literally sleep on it. For the main we had chicken schnitzel which was cooked to perfection and a strawberry warm halloumi salad on the side. All the staff was super friendly and helpful, and they gave us ice cream and sticky toffee cake (I don’t even like cake but this was from heaven) on the house for our birthday celebration which was so kind of them! Cannot wait to be back at this place!”
“Went to Checker Hall for a date night for the first time and the restuarant is a vibe. The decorations are super nice and intimate. The staff is extremely friendly and informative on the meals and the food was delicious. The whipped feta is 🔥 (highly recommend), the anonymous email drinks are really good (non-alcoholic), best mussels I've ever had, and the steak frites was 🙌. We got lucky and got a great table on the patio too. Will be coming back for the bar next time!”
“Fabulous food in a stunning interior!! What I really cannot wrap my head around is why over all these years I have not come here sooner even though Checker Hall is absolutely within my immediate neighborhood. Located on the second floor, next to the Lodge Room (used for concerts and other venues), the restaurant has an adorable interior and atmosphere. Service knowledgeable. But really, the food was exceptionally good and fabulously blended various flavors with a touch of spiciness. The whipped feta is a must, the halloumi fatoush was priceless, I loved the cauliflower, and the branzino could not have been more tender and juicy, it was perfect. Couldn’t resist the delicious dessert (pot de crème), and … in contrast to Bestia or the Wife and the Somm, Checker Hall has a tasty expresso to round up the experience. (OpbmoY)”
