Jon & Vinny's is an all-day Italian neighborhood favorite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. James Beard Award-winning owners Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo reimagined the classic Italian red sauce of their childhoods with their rendition of the classics and a market-driven menu.
“Love this place! And love the vibe! Our waiter, Austin, was so helpful and patient and wonderful. We couldn't decide on what to eat and he went the extra mile to give recommendations. The manager, Miles, was also super sweet. Highly recommend the Cacio e Pepe and the ricotta bread thing 😅”
“Jon & Vinny’s is one of those classic LA Italian spots. Consistently good, a nice ambience, but a little pricey. I went to the Slauson location on this occasion. What we ordered: 1. The Brooklyn dodger pizza - fabulously garlicky and with the slightest hint of basil. Huge fan of neopolitan pizzas, so Jon & Vinny’s pizzas really hit the spot for me. Loved that they kept the sauce light, and the crust was amazing. 2. Broccolini pasta - so refreshing yet satisfying. Love a good pasta that doesn’t rely on a meat sauce. 3. Spicy fusilli - a classic. Hearty and satisfying. Ig: @dawntc”
“Cute small spot to have lunch. Very polite and attentive staff. I love the mix of LA culture with the staff and a mid-scale causal dining environment. Parking was easy during lunch hour. Street parking available if parking lot is full. Enjoyed the Gem salad, Margherita pizza, spicy fusilli, garlic bread, and prime top sirloin steak. For drinks a strawberry matcha (which was recommended) and pink lemonade. Side note only regular lemonade and tea are refillable, there are no customizations (typical for nicer restaurants). I saw the wines were popular to try amongst other patrons. Also, only one meat pasta available, if you go with a carnivore like I did but there are meat dishes. Everything was very shareable except pasta and steak. Unless you do not eat a lot. The food was delicious. I am not a red sauce girlie but saw the spicy fusilli was popular so gave it try. I can see why it’s popular but still not a red sauce fan on pasta. The steak was cooked well and flavorful. The pizza had a good ratio of sauce and cheese. The salad is a twist on a Caesar, I enjoyed the breadcrumbs to balance it out. The garlic bread wasn’t necessary and not a fan fave at the table. Now to the drinks. The matcha had an earthy taste which I like, not too bitter but definitely couldn’t taste the strawberry flavoring. The pink lemonade was enjoyable. Overall, nice lunch experience and would visit again, maybe try a white sauce or pesto.”
“Overall a pleasant experience. Came based off other reviews and had very high expectations. Unfortunately some dishes didnt live up to the hype. Its also pretty pricey for what you get. There's minimal seating inside and a few outside. They do take reservations so make one in advanced. Service was fast and food comes randomly when its done cooking so dont expect appetizers to come before entrees. The salad was delicious and the fusili was the standout but everything else was just meh... I wouldn't order it again.”
“I had been craving real chicken parm for a while, and I finally decided to give Jon and Vinny's a try. It looked amazing, but the meat was off. It tasted really gamey and it was tough, not tender at all. The sauce and cheese were 🔥 but the quality of the chicken was horrible and I only ate a few bites. $44 (w/ tip included) wasted. 😔”
