Welcome to Mulate's! We are proudly family-owned and operated in New Orleans since 1990! Located conveniently on the corner of Julia street and Convention Center Blvd across from the Riverwalk and Convention Center, Mulate's is known as the original Cajun restaurant(tm), famous for preserving and celebrating the food, music and culture found in the small towns and along the bayous of south Louisiana. Mulate's servers up traditional Cajun cuisine like gumbo and jambalaya, as well as some more modern Louisiana favorites like chargrilled oysters and southern fried chicken sandwiches. Our menu, designed by second-generation owner, Monique Boutte Christina, reflects an ongoing evolution of Louisiana cuisine. Don't miss our specialty cocktails and local beers on draft! Live Cajun music nightly.
“it was our second and THIRD time eating here while staying in NOLA, and the service & immaculate food absolutely made us come back for more friday night we had will as our server, and saturday we had julie - both of which were so lovely and attentive. will had great recommendations and explained to us all the different parts of the taste of new orleans, and julie made sure we had everything we needed :) they were both so lovely to chat with and of course the food was great, the seafood all tasted so fresh (will recommended the blackened shrimp - it is so so good), and the monsoon drink & cute little cup was perfect. and the live music! maybe it is not a vibe for everyone, but i adore it. 10/10, will be back next year for pokemon NAIC and will continue to recommend to our friends ❤️”
“This place is such a vibe!! Food was great! Service was great!! My hubby had the gator bites, I had the red beans and rice, and we grabbed the bread from the app menu (that stuff is the BOMB...so good). It's right across the street from the outlet stores and the Riverwalk, so great for a nice walk after dinner. If you're boarding a cruise it's also across from the port...just a really great location, really!”
“We went in shortly after they opened. It wasnt busy but we didnt stay long enough for the band. Service was great! Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our waiter Authur was wonderful. He suggested the sweet conbread which was divine. My husband and I split the app sampler with a side of red beans and rice. We dont eat much and we still had leftovers. it was a lot. for us. The app sampler the fried shrimp was good, the crawfish pie was good, it surprised me bc i dont like crawfish usually. I didnt try the frog legs (my texture issue made it too gummy for me) my dh liked it though. The grilled gator was meh, its prob better fried. The catfish was meh as well, a little mushy. And whatever the boudin was, not for us too mushy and it just didnt look appetizing for me. The red beans and rice was delish. Even with all that, we had leftovers of the shrimp and cornbread. Would def go back though.”
“live music and dance floor was amazing but the food and service definitely could be improved. our server was lovely but it was difficult to get napkins or sauces as it was so long in between each of her table visits. the appetizers were great, especially the catfish bites (best!!) but idk if we just got a bad batch of oysters but the oysters were not good. I’d come again for the vibes and the catfish bites but def skip the oysters. we also got a sandwich but that took literal ages to come so we had to get it Togo instead.”
“Stopped in for an early dinner during a conference. Had dinner at the bar which was mostly just a counter and not a classic bar look or character. I had a average Cajun Old Fashion followed by cold draft Abita Amber. My entree was Cajun sampler consisting of red beans and rice, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and gumbo arrived promptly. It was quite tasty but oddly barely about room temperature. Desert was a very hot but delicious bread pudding. Venue is set up for live music but none while I was there. All in all, a decent if not somewhat pricey meal.”
