Ayana and Tobias grew up in Germany's Black Forest, but only met in Brooklyn. As a tribute to their love, they opened Black Forest Brooklyn, serving homemade regional specialities (think Schnitzel, Wurst, and Spätzle) and a unique selection of German draft beer, wines, and craft spirits.
“I was surprised at how good this restaurant was! This was a last-minute choice before a Liberty game at UBS arena. I've eaten in a lot of German restaurants and this is right at the top of the group. the food was excellent the service was excellent in The atmosphere was very casual. Lots of families and kids. This will be my go to spot before events at UBS.”
“We hosted a PTA event at Black Forest Brooklyn and couldn’t have been happier! The space and food were truly incredible and we got so many comments about how delicious everything was and how warm and welcoming the atmosphere felt. They reserved a section in the back for us, which created the perfect setting for our group. Tobias was extremely helpful in organizing the event and guiding us on the menu, and the staff was fantastic throughout the evening. We felt truly taken care of. Highly recommend for private events and seems like such a great space to just pop in for a bite too.”
“Throughout my school years, I have stopped here on occasion for lunch and the food is relatively good. The wursts are the stars of the show. The schnitzel is, unfortunately, underwhelming. The price tag can be disagreeable to some and I would not blame you. If you would like something German, this is a solid spot aside from just buying bratwursts and beers and going home. The beers can also be expensive to some, but some of their options are imported and have a rather strong and deep flavor. I personally enjoy them. There are beers of all types and sizes for those versed in what they want. It's definitely a riot during Oktoberfest. The staff, unfortunately, seem extremely overwhelmed. The place is almost always packed so they're ferrying quite a lot of food and customers. They are not likely to return to check on you unless you flag them down.”
“Food was pretty good, I liked the rolled omelette with potatoes and sour dough toast. The waffles in the chicken and waffle were delicious - slightly crunchy and tasted slightly almondy. The chicken legs were slightly burnt on the outside though. Came here for brunch for 5 early on a weekend day and was not too crowded and could get seated right away.”
“I cant compare this German place because I often dont go to biergartens, but the potato salad had a lot of pickles and was more sour than creamy. The brat was on the dry side, with the mustard being very spicy. The pretzel bun was good though. If youre looking for comfort food this is not the place, but if you want sharp tastes that diversify your palette then this may be for you.”
