Covacha is a tribute to the food of the western Mexican “Ranchos”, particularly inspired by Jalisco, honoring the “Milpa” culture (a pre-colonial agricultural system configured around polycultures). Covacha brings authenticity to the table and attention to details all around, while at the same time represents the artisanal processes and high-quality ingredients, with a focus on independent, small batch producers and revised versions of word-of-mouth traditional recipes, as well as a carefully curated selection of boutique Mexican crafted distillers and natural wines. We are grateful and honored to have won the Michelin recognition in the Bib Gourmand category, “awarded to excellent restaurants where the food is very good at a reasonable price.”
“Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon after a day at the museum. Slight wait for a table of 5 (4 adults and 1 child) which was conveniently ready by the time our margaritas were ready at the bar. Margaritas were delicious, especially with the spicy green rim. Our waitress was wonderful and gave us great recommendations. We had guacamole and the quesadilla negra appetizers. Some of the best guacamole we’ve ever had and we all felt like we could drink the corn truffle sauce with the quesadilla negra. Our meals included the cauli chicharrone and pork belly carnitas tacos, chicken enchiladas and chilaquiles rojos with sides of pickled veggies and refried bayo beans. The food was absolutely incredible! We could not stop talking about how amazing everything was while still eating the meal! We cannot wait to come back to our new favorite Mexican restaurant”
“To start off, the food was absolutely outstanding. The guac was out of this world with flavor and spice and the tacos had flavor and depth. Drinks were very good as well and the ingredients for the drinks blended together really well. The main star of the visit was the customer service. Each staff person made plenty of touch points and our table felt like we never had to ask or look for help. The staff made the recommendations for everything and was confident and spot on. If you're in the area, must go!!!”
“This place is solid. The food and drinks were on point. The happy hour is well worth the prices. The tacos were super fresh and juicy and the entree portion was enough for us (3 people). We shared 2 appetizers, 3 tacos, a main entree and 2 desserts. Everything hit! The staff were amazing and super attentive and the music matched the vibe. Can’t wait to come back.”
“Mexican restaurant on UWS on the Michelin guide, pretty self explanatory! Saturday afternoon quite busy, lots of reservations and walk ins. Portions were generous and flavours top tier. The guac had a chilli oil on it that was immense and homemade tortillas. Homemade lemonade was gorgeous! Sometimes they can be a little tart but this was perfectly sweet and lemony. Birria quesadilla was a highlight, birria not too spicy which was great for me but my partner would’ve rathered more fire. The chipotle shrimp taco was lovely and had the spice missing from the birria. Pork taco spot on. Overall excellent meal!!”
“My birthday luncheon! I was welcomed and promptly seated as a walk-in. I was fortunate to have Alexia as my server, knowledgeable, smiling face, prompt and attentive to my food tastes. She was very helpful with her suggestive dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. Great ambiance and the restaurant is full of energy. Seemed like a smooth flow auto run place. I had a list of a few IG’s dishes that I realllllllllly wanted to try Chef Lilly’s specialties, but none were available- I guess seasonal. I had a mental palate to try’em all, but was disheartened…maybe another time. Kudos to the team for a very well run operation. 👏😋🫶‼️ Ty Alexia for friendly service.”
