Crown Shy is the first solo project from Chef James Kent. Located on the ground floor of Art Deco masterpiece 70 Pine Street, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star just six months after opening as well as the highest score given by the Infatuation in 2019.
“One of, if not the best dishes I’ve had. A unique take on a grilled chicken, that makes it stand out on its own. A complete meal, from appetizer to dessert. The beverages were also of top quality & taste. I could ramble on but just know that you can taste everything they put into it and worth the price. Visited from Texas from seeing their YouTube video. The chef came out to speak with me. Very kind encounter. Great experience from walking in to walking out.”
“Approachable fine dining exceeds all expectations. Every aspect of the experience is top-notch, from the impeccable service to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Paul at the bar is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and his cocktails are beautifully balanced. We had a delightful conversation about gin and mezcal, and his expertise was evident. Our table had a lovely view of the well-appointed and choreographed kitchen, adding to the overall ambiance. The service was impeccable, and there was no need to rush. We were given ample time to enjoy the food and the highest level of service. When we made our selections, our server, Noelle, described each menu item in beautiful detail. The scallops in blood orange and romaine with green goddess were a standout dish, followed by bucatini for me and monkfish for him. The sommelier, Allie, paired the perfect wine for each course, enhancing the dining experience. The attention to detail and the overall experience for laid back fine dining were truly exceptional. It was an honor to be their guest, and I highly recommend their offerings to anyone seeking a truly memorable dining experience. Don’t skip dessert Thank you Silvia for attention to detail.”
“This place is great. It earned a Michelin Star back in 2024 but the food is still wonderful. High class fine dining dishes are served and the kitchen is open to the dining room which is very nice. The Hostess are a bit slow to great or take care of you but apart from that, the place is very nice. We tried the Green Goodess Salad, the Beef Carpaccio, the Monk Fish Au Povre and the Gnocchi Pasta which were all superb! If you are in the neighborbood, I would reccomend this place for a nice light meal!”
“Great service food and atmosphere. Had the 3 course restaurant week menu. The first course of beef carpaccio/sates was visually not great but tasted absolutely amazing. The flavor is some of the best for the type of raw beef taste you may look for. The entree of jerk octopus was very unique fresh and nicely flavored. The sticky toffee pudding is legendary and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Not a bad price either. Good portions. Great service. Probably the easiest Michelin star to eat at in that it had a laid back not pretentious vibe. Highly highly recommend whether it’s your first or tenth Michelin experience”
“Our experience at Crown Shy was generally very good. Below are the key highlights and lowlights of our visit. Highlights • The Gnocchi is a Must-Try: Without a doubt, the absolute best part was the gnocchi. If you dine here, you must order them, they were truly exquisite. • Exceptional Bread: The initial pistachio bread served was spectacular. • Wonderful Ambiance: The overall setting and ambiance of the restaurant were really well done. • Outstanding Service: I also want to highlight the excellent attention from the entire staff. Lowlights • Late Seating: Despite having a 9:30 PM reservation, we were seated about 20 minutes late. The waiting area isn't the best, as there's constant foot traffic. • Spicy Dish Issue: While the server did warn me, the dish I received was genuinely too spicy. After mentioning it to the waiter, they were kind enough to bring me a replacement dish free of charge, which was excellent customer service on their part. • Inconsistent Portion Sizes: My wife ordered a pumpkin dish that was surprisingly small, especially when compared to my massive pork portion. Summary Overall, while there are a few points for potential improvement (the wait and portion size consistency), the total experience was very good.”
