Elegant yet unassuming, Jean Claude is a welcome change from the Parisian-style bôites that seem to cover Manhattan like poivre on steak. After proudly serving fine French cuisine to Soho (Upper East Side and Sutton place) patrons for over twenty years, Jean Claude has brought its popular menu uptown, including such classics as moules frites and mesclun with goat cheese, as well as exceptional entrées de la mer like roasted codfish, whose bell pepper sauce is as vibrant and robust as the fish is flaky and delicate.
“Superb French Bistro in the Sutton Place community that consistently delivers exceptional Food, Service, and Atmosphere! Try the escargot, Seared Foie, Filet, Skate, or any item on the menu. Wine list carefully constructed, good value. Give it a try!”
“I loved my rainy day lunch at Jean Claude Bistro. Great staff and fabulous food! I kept it light with a crab cake appetizer. Delicious and larger than I expected. Thanks Kamel for a great experience.”
“If you’re over in Midtown East, this French Bisto is a good option. Good service, moderately priced menu, and tasty food. The salmon and steak dishes we had we tasty and did not disappoint.”
“We went again for dinner the other day. Four of us. Greeted very nicely at the door and got a nice table inside. We ordered several appetizers including beat salad, shrimp salad and two mains salmon and steak frittes all were good but the steak was a little tough. Portions were quite large. We brought our own wine and the corkage fee was $35.00. Service was very nice and there was a lively crowd but a little noisy due to the people at the table next to us. My wife and went back to have dinner alone this time. We got a nice table in the back. Place was almost full but noise level was lower than on our last visit. We order a carafe of wine to start with the pate platter. The pate was just ok. Then we order the hanger steak and salmon. Both were cooked nicely and very delicious. It was a very pleasant evening. Our waiter was very attentive and service was prompt. All A+.”
“i used to visit jc all the time when they were in soho and every now and then i crave the skate dish. im pretty sure theyve changed chefs since then because the tomatoes are usually bigger and charred which would have been better with the couscous and the dressing. the skate itself was still good but it was a culmination of all the ingredients in one bite that made this dish live rent free in my head. my bf had the filet mignon special on this saturday. it was cooked perfectly for him. medium but leaning towards medium rare as it was still juicy when cut. the crab cake was just ok. i should have ordered my usual squid salad. maybe next time. we got a nice super affordable bottle of bordeaux. while my bf thought it was a bit sweet, i thought it paired quite well with out meal. overall i like it. i will keep hoping the skate dish will one day taste like it used to. but all the other entrees are very good as well. they also dont skimp on the portions. the dishes are hefty. good value.”
