Michael's Restaurant created by Michael McCarty in California in 1979 opened a second Michael's in NYC in 1989 and brought his seasonal new American fare with him. Michael's New York made an immediate impact with the publishing and media titans and continues to attract a lavish crowd of Hollywood types and all the mucky mucks you can imagine. Food and wine are front and center at this media watering hole where you sit next to world class contemporary art and maybe even a celeb or two.
“Wonderful evening at Michael's. We ordered and shared the Cobb salad which was so delicious, a must order for sure. Our dinner choices equally amazing: branzino was fabulous, salmon entree was perfection, and the burger so tasty. The staff made the evening even better, attentive, professional and personable. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for, quiet and unrushed. We will definitely be back.”
“We werent sure where to eat before our show and noticed Michaels and decided to go in and was a great decision. The restaurant itself is beautiful with retro red art on all the walls, service was amazing we sat at the bar . We were not able to dine in but enjoyed their happy hour options the Korean Fried chicken was delicious and Duck Bao Buns. Will definetly return!”
“From the moment you enter Michael’s in midtown, you feel something different. You realize why certain places are deserving of the title “institution”. This decades-long power dining restaurant is a class above the rest. From the cozy decor to the amazing art collection, to the attentive and courteous staff led by dining legend Steve at the helm as manager to the decadent expertly prepared cuisine, this place is deserving of every single accolade. We started with a few craft martinis (my friend’s up, mine extra dirty) and went into the Korean chicken bites, caesar salad, burrata special and tartare for apps and I ordered the chefs lamb for my main with a side of delicious broccolini. The team brought out a full spread of desserts which was far too much but if anything it showed that they are willing to go above and beyond for their clientele. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area. Thanks team!”
“Some colleagues took me here and told me about its California origins and Michael’s history himself and then he actually stopped by the table. It was lunch and I had a magnificent Cobb salad. Staff and environs wonderful.”
“Went to Michael’s for a team dinner and had a solid overall experience, but the food didn’t quite match the price point. I ordered the branzino, pizza, and fries—everything was good, but fairly middle-of-the-road for a restaurant at this level. The branzino was well-cooked but could’ve used more brightness or seasoning, the pizza was decent but not particularly memorable, and the fries were standard. That seemed to be the general sentiment across the table as well—no real misses, but nothing that stood out. Service was polished and professional, and the atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a classic Midtown spot—great for group dinners or business settings. Overall, a reliable choice for the setting and experience, but the food itself felt a bit underwhelming for the price.”
