The newly renovated space features an elegant private dining area, complete with a sleek sushi bar offering an omakase tasting journey, led under the direction of executive chef and owner Leo Lin Aka Rio, リオ Among the pioneers behind the neighborhood’s sushi revolution, Shihou’s owner and Chef, Leo Lin, is no stranger to the world of Japanese cuisine. In 2015, he spent 3 months in Japan building contacts to source the most popular, season fish for the American palette. Although he visits his overseas colleagues quite regularly, his grand ambitions remain here, in the United States. A strong team of chefs and servers—all veterans of the omakase realm— have also been handpicked by Rio, himself. Together, with these powerful connections and expertise, the team is excited to serve you a spectacular meal in the beautiful New York City.
“Every bite was phenomenal and full of flavor. The dessert of brown sugar ice cream on the wafer cookie was a great way to end the night and delicious.”
“Wonderful and scrumptious experience! We booked the 13-course Autumn lunch special for 3 at the counter on a Saturday. Despite buffering 30 minutes, the MTA was dysfunctional beyond our expectations per usual and we were on the verge of running late, so we called to let them know of the situation. They were very kind and understanding and let us have a 15 minute grace period, which we ended up not even needing because we sprinted there upon pulling into the station. Upon being seated in the cozy but elegant space, the courteous staff explained the menu, including a la carte items and drinks. The chef quickly sprang into action, and we were served heavenly bite after bite. To be honest, we didn't even really capture all of his expectations because we were too captivated by his masterpieces in our ravenous states, but every course was unique and fresh, yet giving a harmonious overall experience. My personal favorite was the striped jack nigiri, which had a bit of ponzu brushed onto it before serving. Second favorite was the appetizer - it was mindblowing flavor packed into each grain of rice.”
“I really enjoyed this place! The chefs explained each dish, which is one of my favorite parts of the omakase experience. Every piece of sushi tasted incredibly fresh, and the appetizers were thoughtfully chosen and delicious. We also ordered cocktails, and everything came out to about $100 per person; such a great deal for the quality. We’re definitely planning to come back for the premium experience next time!”
“RUN THERE NOW, don’t walk!! Literally hands down the best omakase experience I’ve had in NYC for this price point. Such hidden gem that you might casually walk by without looking twice. I went there for lunch on a slow Sunday and had the place to ourselves. Ingredients were so fresh and each bite was superbly well balanced in terms of flavors. The chef was so considerate and kept dishing one bite after the other at lightening speed since I told him I had a flight to catch later.”
“Really good experience. The omakase was super tasteful and good price. All the bites were amazing and we don’t like wasabi and they made a note and didn’t put any on our food. Thanks for everything”
