“Sanyuu West is an omakase restaurant that offers a 15 course experience at a price point that is genuinely difficult to match in New York for what the kitchen delivers. The fish quality is the foundation and it holds up across every course. The ikura is notably clean without the fishiness that less carefully sourced versions carry. The fluke topped with its own fin is the kind of preparation that you do not encounter often in the city, but pairs well with the entire meal. The madai, hamachi, kanpachi, king salmon, yuzu ikura, and foie gras courses all are good, and the flavor combinations across the progression show a considered approach to how one piece sets up the next. The hand rolls use nori that is fresh enough to chew cleanly without resistance, which is a small detail that affects every bite. The rice to fish ratio is handled correctly, which is the baseline technical requirement for omakase that not every kitchen meets. The chefs prepare everything in front of you and engage with the table throughout the meal in a way that feels natural rather than performative. Modifications for dietary preferences are accommodated with care rather than reluctance. The setting is intimate and quiet, well suited for a date or a focused dinner with a small group, with the bar seating along the counter giving you the full chef interaction experience. For omakase in New York at this price and quality level, Sanyuu West is one of the more compelling options available.”
“Overall an excellent experience. The scallop and striped Jack being the highlights, the uni toast actually the least favorite amongst our group as there was no distinct flavor and the sesame oil in the unagi a little too overpowering.”
“I loved everything about this place! We did the 15 course option for $87 with some additions. Each bite was unique and tasty. The fish melted in your mouth. I definitely could’ve had more but it was just enough for me.”
“Sanyuu West is truly a gem. Every time I go, I’m reminded why it’s one of my favorite spots. The food is exceptional — everything tastes incredibly fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and full of authentic flavor. The ramen is rich and comforting, the sushi is beautifully crafted, and even the small plates feel like they’re made with real care. The service is another highlight. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling intrusive. They know their menu well and are always happy to make recommendations, which I appreciate. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, perfect for a casual dinner, a date night, or even just a quiet meal alone. You can tell they put effort into the little details, and it makes the whole experience feel special. Overall, Sanyuu West delivers consistency, quality, and great vibes every single time. If you’re looking for amazing Japanese food with top-notch service, this place is an easy 10/10. Highly recommended.”
“The restaurant itself was very clean and pleasant. All the fish were excellently prepared overall. I really liked the fluke topped with its own fin — it was something I’d never seen before in New York. The sesame oil sauce used for the eel was also unique and delicious. I appreciate the chef and the restaurant staff for celebrating my friend’s birthday with us. We had such a wonderful time.”
