Dija Mara is a Southeast Asian restaurant in the Oceanside neighborhood of Oceanside.
“Creative Southeast Asian Flavors, Excellent Cocktails, and Warm Service Dija Mara delivered a fun and memorable dining experience, elevated by friendly and attentive service from Alison and Kaitlen. The menu is full of bold Southeast Asian-inspired flavors, creative presentations, and unique cocktails that make it worth seeking out. We started with the roti, which arrived hot, thin, and crispy, paired with a rich lamb jus that made for an excellent combination. The pork belly was another standout—beautifully roasted and well-seasoned, with a flavorful peanut sauce, fresh mint, and just enough spice to keep things interesting. The beef rendang was excellent as well. Rather than being overly saucy, it let the curry spices shine through, while the addition of mango provided a pleasant contrast of sweetness and texture. Not every dish was a home run. The yu choy was unfortunately overcooked and became somewhat soggy, though the sauce itself was delicious. The roasted eggplant was good, but the generous amount of crumble on top overwhelmed the eggplant, which should have been the star of the dish. The fried chicken was enjoyable and expertly cooked, though it wasn’t quite what I expected. I was anticipating a crispier, Southern-style fried chicken, whereas this leaned more toward the texture and flavor of roasted chicken. Still tasty, just different than expected. Dessert finished the meal on a high note. A complimentary birthday scoop of passionfruit sorbet was intensely tart—in a good way—with toasted coconut flakes adding texture and balance. The coconut cake with coconut sorbet and salted caramel was outstanding, combining contrasting temperatures, textures, and flavors into a dessert I’d happily order again. The cocktail program deserves special mention. The Black Sesame cocktail was like drinking a sophisticated black sesame dessert with alcohol, while the Dija Lychee Martini was refreshing, balanced, and absolutely delicious. The only disappointment of the evening was that they had already sold out of the fried fish, which just gives us a reason to come back. Overall, Dija Mara offers creative food, excellent cocktails, and welcoming service. Recommend.”
“Widely recognized and deservedly so, there's not a bad thing on the menu. Everything we had was absolutely fantastic and service was excellent. If you're even remotely considering eating here, just do yourself a favor and reserve already.”
“This Balinese/Indonesian restaurant NEVER disappoints. They are a small (may 15 tables) restaurant listwd on the Micheline guide with exceptional food. Reservation highly recommended. The cocktails (lychee martini and Gypsy water) were well-balanced and deliciously crafted. The food, however, completely stole the show. We began with the Roti with Lamb Curry Jus, which was rich, comforting, and deeply flavorful. The smoky Pork Belly Skewers were a standout- tender, charred to perfection, and packed with bold flavor reminiscent of Jamaican jerk pork (yaad style) . The Mie Goreng (noodles) with spicy lamb had the perfect level of heat and depth, while the Beef Rendang featured incredibly tender short rib beef paired with quail egg over rice, creating one of the most satisfying dishes of the night. Every plate was thoughtful, flavorful, and memorable. This is the kind of restaurant where you immediately start planning what you want to order on your next visit before you even leave the table. If we had more space in our dtomach, I would have kept ordering 😌🤭”
“Soo so good! Their dishes are unique and hearty! My favorite dish was the Eggplant. There was so much, it was shared among the three of us, one of which does not like eggplant… yet she loved this dish! The food was a nice fusion of Balinese and Western. They managed it perfectly! We can’t wait to try a few more of their dishes! Oh, and the dessert was heavenly! And to top it off, awesome 80s music in the background.🎶”
“The food was good, but some of it felt pricey for what we received. However, the service was so bad I would not come back. Food: Grilled Roti - really underwhelmed considering the $12 price. It was a single piece of roti that was served with jus sauce Sea Bream Ceviche - we didn't feel like there was anything special with this ceviche and it was served with tiny chips that make it really hard to get the ceviche on Beef Tartare - this was really good and great for sharing Grilled Broccolini - I thought this was too salty so it wasn't for me Charred Eggplant - this was my favorite of the entire menu. We ordered one to try and ended up ordering another Skewers - each order of skewers comes with 4. We were a party of 6 and we asked if we could add an extra 2 skewers to each order so everyone could have one skewer. The server said the kitchen wouldn't so that. I understand they don't have to accommodate the request but I was a bit surprised they wouldn't. The server suggested we just order two orders of every skewer plate, which seemed kind of crazy consider each skewer plate was $17-20. If we had done what the server suggested, we would have spent almost $120 on just skewers Prawn Skewers - these were ok. Nothing special Chicken Thigh Skewers - these were my least favorite. They were too salty for me Pork Belly Skewers - these were my favorite Mie Gorang (fried noodles) - we were shocked this came off the large plate menu considering the portion. This was really enjoyed by our table but I found it too salty for me Nasi Goreng - this was good Ayam Penyet - this was really good. The chicken was well seasoned and the skin was crispy Pandan Lime Coconut Mocktail - a great mocktail Service: The service at Dija Mara was very off-putting for me and I would not return to the restaurant because of the service. In general, the server just seemed annoyed and unfriendly. Typically at a restaurant that recommends sharing small plates, they recommend how many plates you should get for your party size. Our server didn't offer any input and we ended up needing to make a second order of food. The server seemed extremely annoyed when we asked if there were any specials and we had to ask what the daily protein and dessert was. It took AGES for us to get our second order of food. We didn't get dessert because we were worried how long it would take to get our food. Because we were a party of 6, they add a mandatory gratuity so be mindful of that if you are a large party.”
