German for “fat pig,” Fette Sau specializes in high-quality, locally sourced meats, dry-rubbed, smoked on the premises and sold by the pound for a remarkable take on American barbecue. A collaboration between Stephen Starr and New York restaurateur Joe Carroll, this outpost has a Philadelphia flavor all its own. Brisket, pork ribs, organic chicken and hot Italian sausage are just a few of the meat options, complemented by simple sides and killer beer, cider and bourbon lists. A daily-changing menu ensures no two visits are ever the same.
“I tried this spot for take-out and it was fantastic—really captures that true BBQ flavor. The brisket sandwich was the star, absolutely delicious. The BBQ chicken was also really good, especially in a roll with some sauce—so satisfying. The wings and mac & cheese were decent, nothing standout, but overall the experience was great. The vibe of the place when I went to pick up my order was welcoming, and I’ll definitely be coming back!”
“We tried the brisket, smoked chicken, and smoked buffalo wings, along with mac and cheese, half-sour pickles, and cornbread on the side. The wings were absolutely outstanding—perfectly smoky with just the right amount of heat. All the meats were incredibly juicy and flavorful, with spices that were spot-on. The atmosphere added to the experience, featuring rustic wooden tables and chairs that gave the place a warm, inviting feel. Highly recommended for anyone who loves quality barbecue in a relaxed setting.”
“Different Cheesesteak’esque sandwich #1238. I went at happy hour. I miss happy hour. $8 burnt ends sandwich. $7 Old Fashion. You know I love those prices. I love the decor. The sandwich comes with spicy slaw. I am spicy adverse, and I liked this slaw. It was more flavorful than spicy. I liked the Fette Sau sweet sauce. You gotta love a nice soft potato roll. Good day to be me.”
“Unique barbecue spot in the city. Close to the Fillmore. We both got the brisket sandwich. The flavor was spectacular, just a little fatty for our liking. The Mac and cheese was divine. The chocolate chip cookie was okay. Overall, we would recommend dining here.”
“Hubby and I wanted to try something new and we LOVE BBQ, we’re from out of town and was in the area so we ended up here. Bill after tip came to $108. We got the Fat Cow with an order of wings. Here are our thoughts…. Shredded beef was good, better with the sweet bbq sauce Wings ( if cooked a little longer) good flavor Mac and cheese was ok Brisket VERY fatty no flavor Baked Beans was still hard, ok flavor Collard Greens, meh, strong vinegar taste The slaw, potato salad and broccoli salad were THE WORSE SIDES EVER! All of them taste like vinegar, bitter and bland! So out of everything we only liked 3 items….very disappointed and not worth the money. Won’t consider coming back or recommending this place. Wish we could get our money back honestly.”
