Ay! Chavelaa tacos & cantina is a Street Food restaurant in the Pompano Beach neighborhood of Pompano Beach.
“I had a California burrito. It was a little salty but the steak had a special flavor which I thought was outstanding. It doesn't come with any sides but after eating the burrito I didn't need any more food it was very filling. The price is a reasonable. This is a specialty taco place similar to like tacocraft but I think the prices are a little better and it also looks like they offer alcohol as well though I didn't have any.”
“Super cute little place in a strip mall. We had a shrimp burrito, chicken wings, and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was fantastic! Highly recommend!”
“I loved the decor and look of this restaurant. The interior is unique, bold and colorful. The menu was varied with a wide variety of choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts. We ordered empanadas and this cheesy corn dip - both were delicious. We also had tacos, enchiladas, and a beef bowl. The food was very good and tasty though some of the beef was a bit fatty with some gristle. The bathrooms were decorated nicely; however, they could have been cleaner with the toilet paper actually in a holder. I’d definitely come back again because we really did enjoy the meal.”
“I very rarely write reviews, but feel compelled to share our recent dining experience so others are aware. I’ve eaten here twice before. The first time it was pretty much empty, with maybe one other table and the waitress forgot two items from our order. We just said to forget them after she didn’t realize till after our entrées came out. The tacos were all very good as were the drinks and the decor in the space is very fun and inviting, hence why we did look forward to returning. On our second visit for dinner it was a fair amount more busy and they had a DJ, which was nice, but the music was so deafening loud it physically made our ears hurt and just rush to eat and leave. The drinks were not as good as the first time, nor came out as pictured on their menu. We ordered guacamole this time which basically consisted of smeared guac on the edge of a bowl. There was literally nothing to dip into, and it was so salty, we could not even eat it so had to return it. The tacos which we had looked forward to were not executed the same as the last time. We ordered the Birria tacos which usually has the tortilla fried but they did not this time so were a bit soggy when dipping in the consommé. So just no consistency with the food and drinks. It’s hard to want to return when you don’t know what you’re gonna get each time you visit which is a shame as we were really looking forward to having a new go to spot in our neighborhood. So between the lack of consistency and the super loud space unfortunately, we probably won’t be back.”
“Yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and I went to have a meal at what I thought was going to be a great restaurant! My waitress, Laura seated me at the bar right next to the tortilla chip warmer where fresh large fresh tortilla chips were displayed! Laura told me about their special which included a house margarita, guacamole with chips and three tacos. I had to wait 15 minutes JUST to get my water and during that time I ran into my unhappy barber who had been waiting 30 minutes for his drink.! 15 minutes later, when my appetizer of guacamole and chips arrived with the tacos, The stale, broken up tortilla chips filled about half the bowl! When I asked Laura if she could please give me some large chips from the dispenser next to me, she politely obliged! I then reminded Laura that I was waiting for my drink and I wanted it without very many rocks! She smiled and said it was "coming soon" . When I finally got my drink I was halfway done with my meal and the drink was incredibly weak, and halk of it was ICE! Mind you I'm not a drinker and I'm a lightweight and after drinking that margarita I barely felt a buzz of any kind! The three al Pastor tacos were dry and tough! Needless to say that was my first and last time I will be patronizing this restaurant!”
