Nosh is a New American restaurant in the Rochester neighborhood of Rochester.
“Nosh is a really nice modern restaurant with an industrial feel to the decor, and it made a strong impression right away. The atmosphere has a cool, upscale-but-not-stuffy vibe, and our waitress was super friendly and helpful throughout the meal. The menu is definitely creative, and the bourbon list honestly made me wish I didn’t have to quit drinking. There were some seriously tempting options on there. We started with the "Pink Panther Squid", which is basically fried calamari with pink peppercorns. It was tasty, but not the best calamari I’ve ever had. I think the breading could use a bit more seasoning instead of relying so heavily on the sauces for flavor. The Szechuan oil had a kick like a horse, while the Szechuan mayo still had some heat but brought a lot more flavor with it. I probably wouldn’t order that appetizer again, but it was still interesting and worth trying once. The entrees, though, are where Nosh really showed what they can do. My wife had the "Steak and Noodle", and the steak was outstandingly tender. The sweet potato glass noodles with the oyster mushroom sauce were delicious and really well put together. I had the "Shoyu Chicken", and my mouth went to heaven for a moment. SO GOOD. The chicken was cooked perfectly, the glaze was amazing, and the little chunks of Spam, carrots, and spatzle sounded like they should have been weird together, but somehow they worked beautifully. Looking at some of the ingredients in these dishes, you might think the chef went in blindfolded and just started throwing whatever worked onto the plates, but the crazy part is that it all works. And it works really well. With their rotating menu and the level of creativity coming out of the kitchen, we’ll definitely be back. Nosh is one of those places where even if one dish doesn’t completely land for you, you can tell they know exactly what they’re doing.”
“Dinner with friends. The service was amazing! (Lindsey🥰) My husband has allergies and several dietary restrictions. Lindsey continually offered support and suggestions. They customized his order. The lighting was perfect. Some restaurants are so dim we can barely read the menu. I’d go back again.”
“What a not-so-hidden gem! We came here for a birthday dinner and had such a great time. Service was smooth and drinks were so tasty! Our waiter made some amazing recommendations that were spot on! You have to try the sorrel cocktail, 10/10!! Although my meal was not so good, everything else tasted amazing. My friends let me sample theirs, haha. You can skip the scallop dish, as the polenta was so tasteless (no jalapeño cheddar taste at all, which was in the description). The gnocchi was the star of the show, it seems! I would certainly return to try more options.”
“Went to Nosh for dinner and overall had a really great experience. Our reservation was at 5, but we showed up around 4:40 and grabbed some drinks at the bar first. The cocktails were really tasty — maybe a little pricey, but nothing unreasonable. We got seated right away and the atmosphere was awesome. Very cozy with lots of wood accents and natural light. For appetizers, we ordered the bone marrow and calamari. The bone marrow was delicious, but there honestly wasn’t a whole lot for the price. The calamari was a little too breading-heavy for us, although both sauces that came with it were great. Probably wouldn’t order that again. The main dishes completely made up for it though. Everything was excellent. We got the tomahawk steak, which was $175, but it could easily feed 2–4 people depending on appetite. It was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. Service was also fantastic — our waiter was witty, attentive, and added a lot to the experience. Overall, we had a great night and would definitely go back. Total came to around $500 for about 10 drinks, 4 main dishes, appetizers, and dessert, which honestly didn’t feel too bad for the quality and amount of food/drinks we got. Next time we’d just switch up a couple appetizer choices.”
“We ordered drinks and appetizers first, and those were great. We got the cowboy killer cocktail, an old fashioned, the ahi nashos, and the gettin figgy. All were wonderful. Then came the entrees. The yammin salmon was, in a word, disgusting. The overwhelming taste of soy in the fried rice and sweet potato scallion pancake was overpowering and unappetizing. The strip steak, ordered medium rare, was cooked medium well. I’ve never complained to a waiter about food in my life, but I had to give feedback for the salmon dish because it was inedible. He offered to take it back, give free dessert, etc but we declined. The waiter ended up taking 30% off our final bill which was very appreciated and thoughtful. Overall a good experience, but I wish we just stuck with the drinks and appetizers.”
