“My husband and I made a reservation at Hidden Fish to celebrate his birthday and we had a great time. Environment/Experience: It’s an intimate omakase experience with only 12 seats available. Seats and reservation times are specific because everyone starts at the same time. If you get there early, guests are able to get a drink and wait at the side tables and appreciate how they prepare. There are 3 chefs total and each are assigned to every 4 guests which made the service faster and the experience more personable. Service: Huge shout out to our server Sammie who was very personable, checked on us often, and always filled our waters. I really enjoyed chatting it up with her. Shout out to our Chef Sam who was served us fast with each plate. Food: The 90 min omakase included 18 courses— good bang for your buck. We also ordered a 300ml Sake, which Sammie helped us choose. We opted for Pure Dawn which was a bit drier. I appreciated that we were given a copy of the 18 course menu and a pencil so we could make notes and mark the ones we liked best. At the very end, you can order à la carte. For us, we had to order another piece of Miso-Seared Black Cod. We were pretty stuffed at the end! Overall: Plenty of food for a great price. A bonus is that you can use your Amex Plat/Gold Resy credit at this restaurant. Great food, great service. We will certainly be back!”
“Hidden Fish is a must if you’re into high-quality omakase. Their 18-course experience really showcases how good fish can be when it’s sourced right. From buttery New Zealand salmon to premium cuts from Spain, every bite was fresh, clean, and thoughtfully prepared. What stood out the most was how some pieces were served with little to no seasoning—the fish itself carried so much flavor it didn’t need anything else. It’s a true appreciation of the ingredient, and you can taste the difference.”
“My then fiancé now wife and I stumbled upon this place while celebrating our yearly anniversary. Chef Kappa/John was a wonderful host, plying us with multiple rounds of free sake after learning of our occasion and shared LA backgrounds as well as coinciding birthdays and date nights from other guests at our table. Before the alcohol hit, the nigiri was already quite flavorful, service attentive, and company pleasant. In particular, the seared amberjack with green onion and ginger reminded me a lot of steamed Cantonese fish, which I’d never had in sushi form. 10:10 would recommend this place for a fun tasty omakase!”
“Hidden Fish lives up to its name, tucked discreetly behind El Gordo Mexican restaurant, but once you find it, you’re in for something special. This is an intimate 18-course omakase served at a 12-seat counter, with most courses focused on pristine nigiri sushi featuring fish largely flown in from Japan. Every bite was fresh, thoughtful, and beautifully executed. The counter seating creates a relaxed, communal vibe that encourages conversation among guests and interaction with the chef, which really elevates the experience. Service is warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly without ever feeling forced. The sake menu is well-curated, the space and decor are elegant yet comfortable, and pricing feels very appropriate for the quality and care that goes into each course. The menu changes constantly, and I loved every course—no filler, all hits. Parking is easy once you know where you’re going, and while finding it feels like a secret mission, it’s absolutely worth it. I’ll be back on my next trip to San Diego… assuming I can snag a seat. Reservations are a must.”
“Private seating, good tempo of food. Each chef only focuses on about four people. They staff is very attentive. I would strongly recommend this establishment for sushi and food enthusiasts. I can see why they had a Michelin mention. The intention and care behind the preparations were exhibited in the execution of our delicious Omakase dinner. I would fly back down just to eat here again. Our chef was knowledgeable and carefully crafted our pieces. Each piece was perfectly balanced with distinct flavors between the bites.”
